Thanks for the answers! I think I am going to start playing the original TPPI, or make a small 1.7.10 modpack for myself. Its so strange, because I can run a 1.6.4 pack with 150+ mods just fine with 30fps but a 1.7.10 pack with 0-5.

Sorry about that! I read your thread and must have read it wrong =P. But i'm glad that you also think most mods will be updated to 1.9.

I do know for a fact that most mods will be updated to 1.9, because; 1. 1.9 fixes most of the problems of 1.8 2. 1.9 added more content then 1.8 3. Behind the scenes, mojang is making 1.9 easier to port a mod from 1.7.10 to 1.9.

I'm going to go ahead and recommend you add the Thaumcraft minus Thaumcraft mod by our very own @SpitefulFox . IMO, This has elevated Thaumcraft to one of my favorite mods. I think this would be a good addition because I know a lot of peeps get turned away from the darned research game.
