I wouldn't recommend you allocate more then 4 gigs to FTB. Any more than that, java's garbage collecter goes haywire and lags a ton.

Again, if anyone wants to make a modpack for this challenge, be my guest. Just try to keep with the spirit of the challenge. I have been known to flake while making modpacks and i dont have the time currently. Sorry!

Well, I guess you can build a bunch of buildings in a straight line, but what's the fun in that? =P I would recommend doing a lot of buildings in a settlement.
