I would remove the overclock, especially if it hasn't made a difference. Like I said regarding your support components, under stress you can see degraded performance if they are not up to the task.

I've never had a problem getting cactus using vanilla worldgen. All you need is 1, and then you can grow infinite. I think you're literally the only person I've seen taking issue about cacti and BC using it as pipe sealant. As for the thread, if this is just your soapbox to complain about...

You said it right there. It's been said around here a million times; 95% of people don't know configs exist, and of the 5% that do, 95% of them can't be bothered to change them from default. Then there's SMP. If you want a multiplayer experience, may as well just forget about it.

"Some reason" TE gets the hate may be because it has become default for the vast majority of packs. It is the lowest common denominator, the path of least resistance, and gives few reasons to pursue other solutions (especially early game).
