    Will my computer run FTB?

Pretty much any computer can run FTB, but to run it well and give good performance is really the question. The general rule of thumb I use is this: When in doubt, best generation mobo, faster Processor (lock, # cores, and largest L2 cache), more (and fastest) RAM (wth fewest number of sticks)...

What cool little thing have you discovered today?

These one liners give me an idea... fortune for MC.. Just compile the list of one-liner gems (in this thread or others)... and... If you have a Linux box (or Cygwin shell), get a feel: (Oh, the irony) gm2@play:~/dev/modpack$ fortune Caution: Keep out of reach of children.

    1.7.2

It's academic at this point to integrate 1.7 Forge with mods that support 1.7. I suspect the delay is partially a scheduling bottleneck because the mods that are desired by several FTB packs are not yet ported to 1.7 and stable at that version. Regardless, it's entirely possible today to make...

Data on downloads (packs) via FTBLauncher

I've got a mod-pack in development. Part of the pack will include custom mods and part of the pack uses preexisting mods. The Alpha testing is underway and we got a schedule to proceed through to release. At the same time I'm building the launcher (Java app) that is analogous to the...

For those who have multiple cores, MC does take advantage of them in some respect. @obscurehero is absolutely right about fasted per-core CPU, for the sake of MC itself. top -H Then turn on these flags as follows: press f, then j, then ENTER then press 1 press u, enter the username that...

Cannot use buckets to get lava from magma crucible?

Sweet. That's what I needed. (YogscraftComplete has the Floodgate.. just need to figure out how to replenish the crucible with infinite glowstone dust)

I agree re: AMD. It's unfortunate. I like the company, but they don't have the silicon now in the field that makes it cost effective to run MC on their chips. Intel has all the cards on this one.

Thanks. I left out some things that didn't occur to me until after I pressed "post". I'll try to collect them later into something coherent. As far as the hosting, I did a little research on the silicon I wanted and the commercial hosting company (Allgamer.net) built the system for me to...

i7- are a great value. And they can run as long as the juice is hot. i7-4770K in particular. Meow. i7-4960X. Hubba hubba By your analogy, MC is "desktop grade" application (single core). If it was multi-threaded you'd have a point, and i7's would start to wilt to the E3/E5 advantages.

Overlooking the nature of how CPU utilization is measured vs. CPU use is measured. I take it this a Linux (Unix) system then? Look at what the output is from vmstat: yogs@play:~$ vmstat 1 100 procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- -system-- ----cpu---- r b swpd free buff...

Cannot use buckets to get lava from magma crucible?

Another question -- is it possible to "dump" the product of the crucible into a cavity dug into the ground? Eg., energized glow stone. I can create it with the crucible, but I'd like to just spill it out into a cavity.. Possible?

10-20 people playing on your hosted computer, regardless of the mods is going to consume a considerable amount of bandwidth. Unless you're riding on fat pipes, for that kind of population I'd advise renting a server. 4770-i7 or better 8Gb should be fine to start. You can add more later. As...

    FTB - Curse Update

"That taxi cab has a dented fender." I read Slowpoke's articles about this and I feel like a significant other about to get either dumped or proposed to, but I cannot tell which. Where's my beer.

Ubuntu, stripped down can be as effective as raw Deb for the MC server. The administrative tools are virtually identical since they have a common ancestor. But nevertheless I agree 100%, yes Deb is the way to go if you have the choice to select the OS. FooFarm runs a modified Ubuntu...

Exactly. Wait for the other shoe to drop. This is harbinger for more meat hooks to tear into FTB. Wait for it.

FTB and Forge - Curse Partnership.

These two statements appear to converge towards a point where "in the future to halt development of current FTB launcher" and "stay on and continue to work on and developing new mod packs". A few questions here. There was a post FTB made previously that put out in effect 'those who wanted...

I need to find a new home for a server. Here are the requirements for the system: 1. Dedicated hardware, not VPS, not shared. Linux. 2. 100 Gb SSD and 500+ Gb HDD mounted. 3. Root access with ssh and full control of administration of system. 4. McMyAdmin license 5. Processor must have 16...
