I can't really explain why, but RR feels just a million times "cleaner" than Monster. Monster feels like a megapack (well, it is one) with all kinds of mods that don't really fit together thrown in. RR though feels much more focused. And also it gets updates and new mods quicker, for example...

Did you add any mods? Or maybe try to do a force update. To do so, go to the options tab in the launcher and click the "Force Update" button. That will reset the pack you launch next, howewer it will also remove any mods you added.

What's the mod that changes the background in the Monster pack? Like when you are in the server list, the background is stone bricks or something.

What I do is just changing to a completely different game. Just look through your steam library (or generally all your games) and play some of that, I actually prefer something that's not a whole big game with story and all, but something small and stupid. For example Electronic Super Joy :P

As far as I know opening to lan doesn't work on servers. To do that, you can start a single player world and do that there.
