    Try updating to 1.7, I'm sure I fixed the tree crashes once and for all. Also the brewer + distillery thing is weird as I haven't changed any of their logic.

    It can accept IC2's own biogas, otherwise the fermenter would be pretty pointless. Ironically doing a fluid reactor-fermenter setup is a good way to boost power output further from a reactor.

    Recipe plugins that work the same still require separate classes though, even if the classes they use are exactly the same (thus it's overhead for the sake of it), having to extend a class purely for the sake of it's name being different is silly.

    The changes there are just the Jenkins ones expanded and explained if necessary, so if there's missing versions going to the Jenkins changes is the best place. I've added a bunch of recent ones into it now.

There was the large addon set for IC2 that used EU, Forestry, Railcraft and Buildcraft that used MJ and that was pretty much it for power using mods excluding Redpower's charge.     That's gone now in 1.8 anyway, and there's a config option to completely remove the need to wrench them.

    It's a very arbitrary and generic crash, you could try updating Forge but it's most likely a mod problem.

    Before your only option was to have to use a furnace, in many ways it's nicer as you can get plates instantly rather than having to wait and use some kind of fuel in the process if you want to.
