    #BlameMojang

I agree, but honestly I think a lot of it is coming from idle hands. There's a lot of rewriting of things for the sake of rewriting them, even if the benefit doesn't really outweigh the huge effort they put in. Sure, they wanted a model format added to the game. No problem. It could have...

What's new in modded minecraft today?

I appreciate the vote of confidence but I've just never wanted his job. If Forge is his day job then he should probably make sure people still actually want his product. So far it's been a resounding "no thanks." Technically the money he's probably getting right now is mostly coming from cpw...

What's new in modded minecraft today?

People are welcome to disagree based on their own experience with them, but I personally don't think the models are too bad, particularly in regard to static content. Modders like Mr. Crayfish probably think they're great because they're perfect for a lot of the content mods like his add. I...

What's new in modded minecraft today?

I can't help but interpret Searge's announcement as "1.9 will be just as bad as 1.8, but you'll probably get shields and some new blocks." The only hope for modded 1.9 to be worth using is if cpw and King Lemming take over development of the mainstream Forge branch.

    The Great Coding Language Thread

Turbo Pascal 7 will always hold a special place in that code construct of my heart. It was the first compilable language I was able to get my hands on as a teen, having used stuff like Basic and QBasic for ages beforehand. It was even more special to me to be able to learn at the time because...

whats happened to the 1.8 mods

I would say that 1.8 is more like 1.3 and 1.5's changes combined, since the former was heavier on logic changes and the latter was heavier on rendering changes, and 1.8 is both. Though it's less the difficulty in updating and more that it and Forge have their share of issues. But the landscape...

    Content/Cross-Mod Compatibility in Forge/A Forge Sister-Mod?

I chuckled when I read that because I honestly won't be surprised if I'm reading comments like that one day. There's really nothing wrong with RF, but it doesn't exactly have anything special going for it either other than being easy to use and popular right now. Nobody thought IC2 would stop...

    Real life Minecraft moments

There's a small house near where I live which has a gable roof but no overhang whatsoever. Every time I see it nowadays I can't help but think of it as a beginner's Minecraft house, where they put stair blocks flush with the sides of it.

What's new in modded minecraft today?

It's a fun little mod which encourages using physical space rather than the magical void of chests. I've just barely gotten into the food and other items it adds, but I can see anyone who's a fan of stuff like Mr Crayfish's Furniture Mod and Bibliocraft using it as one of their standard installs.

    Recent Events Discussion (RED) Thread

Microsoft Flight Simulator doesn't come with the best of planes, so the community makes up for that with quite a number of replicas. There's free content, but many of the good ones come with a price tag. Since the average Flight Simulator player is typically an older individual, who quite...

    Recent Events Discussion (RED) Thread

That's the thing though: how would you know that you liked Blood Magic or Thaumcraft if you'd had to consider paying for it to even try it? What's next, demo versions of mods? I think the entire concept is ridiculous and I'm glad the EULA forbids it. Every mod is worth a different amount to...

    Recent Events Discussion (RED) Thread

It's like I challenged people on Twitter. If you think paid mods is a good thing, then come up with a price for your favorite mods and go donate that to them today. If you're not willing to donate now then you're not willing to buy it later.

    Content/Cross-Mod Compatibility in Forge/A Forge Sister-Mod?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not angry with you. Perhaps the robotic monotone of internet forums gave the perception of a different attitude than I meant to portray. My opinion may be contrary to yours but you're certainly welcome to discuss it nonetheless.

    Content/Cross-Mod Compatibility in Forge/A Forge Sister-Mod?

I think the underlying point is that modpacks basically already do everything you've described. They combine certain mods, they set certain trends, other mods tend to want to be compatible with what's in those packs to make it easier for pack makers and players, and the community as a whole...

What project(s) are you currently working on?

In terms of playing the game, lately I kind of bounce between alpha 1.2.6, 1.2.5, and 1.4.7. Depends on the mood. In a1.2.6 (using my own customizations) I was building a really long railway using my lattice blocks as a trestle, connecting my starting island base to a large house I built quite...

    Content/Cross-Mod Compatibility in Forge/A Forge Sister-Mod?

Which begs the question of why it needs this at all, when you can still just install it like normal if you want it.

    Content/Cross-Mod Compatibility in Forge/A Forge Sister-Mod?

Not everyone uses NEI. It's just what's popular. CraftGuide still exists, and there's JEI as well. NEI alone wouldn't be good enough anyway. You need at least one or two plugins these days to work with all the various mods, and all of this contributes to performance considerations in some...

    Recent Events Discussion (RED) Thread

Grum said to me the other day that 1.8.4 does less memory allocations than the earlier 1.8 versions, so to be fair it might be a little bit better than it used to be. The last version I took apart was 1.8.1, and they had been attempting to speed it up with some math optimizations compared to...

    Recent Events Discussion (RED) Thread

I ran a 1.8 server, I made 1.8 mods, and I created a 1.8 mod development system. I literally spent months with 1.8. Yet none of that has been enough to keep me interested in that version in the long term. Even the server is back on 1.7.10 now, especially since 1.8's was unstable. I just hope...

    Content/Cross-Mod Compatibility in Forge/A Forge Sister-Mod?

I think it depends on your perspective as to whether this is a problem. I don't know how far back your experience with modded Minecraft goes, but there were times where the only way to convert energy between two mods was to produce a material with one to turn into energy with another. And...
