You can also setup a really easy system for nodes to merge together with the same mechanic by just doing the same 2x2x2 structure of nodes and having the biggest node where the charger is normally. It will take time, but you can get a bigger node.

Most of the times they will be, at least on the servers I've played on. Also of note, the meteorite compass actually locates the meteorite blocks, so if you are having difficulties finding the next meteor because the one you had was too close, digging up the entirety of the meteor will allow...
