Hello everyone. I haven't been on these forums in ages (I'd be flattered if anyone still remembers me). Anyway, I have a question. I'm using an MFR farm to grow (amongst other things) lettuce, tomato and strawberries from pam's harvestcraft. The other crops give seeds automatically when you harvest them, but the pam's seeds have to be crafted from the crops themselves. This is a problem, since all the crops go into my AE network, and there's no way to keep continuously crafting things AFAIK. Even trickier is that I don't want all of them to be crafted, just enough to refill the planter. Can anyone think of a solution? I'm playing on 1.7.10 if that helps.

Bonus question: Is there a way to automatically harvest snowballs?

AE has something called a level emitter, and dark cables- which shut off parts of your network via redstone.
Hmm, this looks interesting. Thing is, the level emitter seems to just go off the total number of items, whereas I need it to detect when there's a shortage on a number of different items (seeds in this case). Dark cables could definitely help though.

I should add that I don't need a perfect solution - if say someone came up with a way of autocrafting only half the crops into seeds, that'd be fine, since I'd still have more than enough crops, but I wouldn't have to worry about seed shortages either.

Snowballs
- I think water flows can drop them as items, as can piston movements. If not try one of the many block-breakers, or a deployer/activator with a shovel.
Of course! I completely forgot about snow golems. Thank you :)

As it happens, block breakers don't work on snow, but I can cheaply manufacture shovels for an autonomous activator, so no biggie.

If it's AE2, the dark cable equivalent is the toggle bus. If you have Witchery, Snowbells are a decent source of snowballs (alongside icy needles).

My thought would be a small sub-network, with a storage bus on the planter, having the export bus (From the main network) into an ME interface controlled via a level emitter (both on the sub-network). As long as the only storage is the planter, I don't see many problems here. I should also note you'll need an export bus/level emitter pair for each seed, so it could require a me controller, if you require more than 8 channels.

Direwolf made an interesting setup with Steve's factory manager that crafts the seeds and kept a certain amount ready for planting while sending the excess on to be used for food.

Did he now? Could you please post a link to the video, since that's a mod I haven't used before.

This is the episode he creates the system for Harvestcraft seeds. If you want to know about all the mod can do, he did a 3 part spotlight on it recently. I've been using Steve's Factory Manager for a while and it has become my favorite mod for automating anything. There is almost nothing you can't do with it. I won't play without it these days.

Thank you :) I haven't chance to watch it now, but I'll be following this as soon as I can play MC next.

TC golems can handle re planting pams crops, but there are a few that they might not be able to handle, the ones you can't just plant in the ground whole like Pam's rice.

You can keep the planter stacked with 64 of each seed using a logistic pipes network. As long as the crafting is made via the logistic method (crafting pipes and automatic crafting table). The logistic network can interface with the ae system using a request pipe and a provider pipe on an interface.

I also pretty like that because let's face it, stone pipes are much more cheaper then AE cables...

precision export bus set to craft and a crafting pattern in your MAC should be enough (for AE1 at least)

for AE2 you can put a stand alone MAC with a pattern in it and export the needed goodies into it, then collect with an interface/importbus

I thought that you would use the fruit picker for this. Don't the bushes work the same way as the trees in this aspect?
