Mobs don't spawn on none solid blocks such as glass. They also don't spawn on half-slabs provided they are put at the bottom. i.e. half slab with half air on top.

Are you sure this isn't a visual problem only? In that case it is normal vanilla behaviour. Too many mobs at the same spot will make them sometimes clip through walls. It is only client side though. The mobs are not really going through the walls.

BlockPos really is not that bad. And there are many improvements in many places (especially rendering). 1.8 and 1.9 modded worlds run a lot smoother for me compared to 1.7.10 (with similar number of mods). Even if the 1.7.10 instance has Optifine and/or Fastcraft. And 'forcing' everyone to JSON...

What those mod don't port is the new cleaner vanilla Minecraft code (which is a HUGE help for modders). The performance improvements that have been done and so on. That's why it stays important to keep up to date with what Mojang does.

The bug with building bricks missing textures should be fixed in the latest version. I helped the author fix this issue
