Your best choice will be (at least from my point of view) to make fresh water bottles and add to your camelpack. it won't cause hunger, you can use it while you are saturated and you get the bottles back.

Just updated to 1.2.7 and pruned my map around the bunker. Now that was an experience suddenly being swarmed by Ghasts when I climbed a spire to mine *LOL* Reminds me to be more careful next time ;)
