Ah, well force fields are pretty visible, looks kinda like glass, so I guess that wouldn't work for you anyways. Well, not sure if there's some invisible large anti mob defense, only thing that comes to mind is simply lighting your base and all around it. Really the best defense against mobs...

Actually, now that you mention it, could one grow a silverwood tree in an aura-less dimension if they place some infused ore blocks?

Have you tried doing it with another sword see if the same happens, you say you punched them, but maybe it has to do with weapons?

You could go underground, place everything, then just make a 1x1 hole to the surface, so the sky is technically not obstructed, yet the mushrooms are not hit by it?

I would recommend an Asus, they are great and quite inexpensive in comparison to others of similar specs.

I have heard of people losing their aura/ aura nodes after going into the nether. I think there being an option in TC's config to restore Auras in the world, if I recall correctly, I'm guessing that would be your best bet.
