Although only one is needed, two Combustion Engines using Fuel can fully power a quarry (each engine produces 5 MJ/t running on Fuel). Magmatic Engines produce 4 MJ/t and are also suitable. Stirling Engines can power a quarry, but at only 1 MJ/t each, you'd need multiple to get the quarry going...

Right now, we're working on the 'This is X' and 'This is how X works,' so that people get a firm basis on each machine or item. To my knowledge, redstone engines can no longer power a quarry through chaining. You have to use a stirling engine or better. Two combustion engines fully power a quarry, as do two biogas engines, though in my testing, using more than two of those engines will actually make it mine faster...
