This effect is intended for when bosses are present; therefore when a boss mob is rendered (in this case, in a mob spawner in NEI) the screen hue changes. When you close your inventory, it fades away. You can disable mob spawners from appearing in NEI somehow I think...

I'll go into creative to retrieve stuff if I die sometimes. Like Mo' Creatures tigers. Those guys suck. Also the crocodiles, the grab functionality of those is kind of broken so I creatived to get stuff back. It's just not fun to lose all your stuff.

This mod is awesome. It's pretty old, and only updated to 1.5.0, but seriously. It adds dynamic sound, basically. Echoes in caves. The nether is spooky as hell with echoing ghast crys instead of annoying ARRCG right in your ears. No zombie grunts (or any sound) through thick walls. Jukeboxes...
