Hey I was wondering if this computer would run ftb direwolf20 or any other 1.6 pack. If you need more info i could probably get it but this is roughly what i know. I have a Pentium dual core E2180 at 2ghz I have 4gb of Ram and im running windows 7 32 bit. For graphics i have a Geforce 8400 GS (dinosaur i know) and yes this isn't very good, but i want to know if it will run ftb until i can get a better computer.

(also I am new to the forums and still don't know where and how exactly to post things)

Thanks for any help!

Not at all, But you should give it a try and even try it with all low video settings.

Thanks for the quick response, see the truth is right now i only have 1gb of ram and im able to run agrarian skies, so i was just wondering if I upgraded to 4gb of ram, if i would be able to run direwolf or horizons.

I would invest in a new CPU and or a new Video Card. The RAM is fine as long as you have enough to run your Computer and Minecraft at the same time.

So if i had 4gb of ram and only allocated 1gb would it rub better?
Off the top of my head, I think 4 GB is the max you want to allocate. The Java garbage collector causes significant problems after that. But if you have 4GB total, I would suggest 2 or 3 as you might want to run other things simultaneously.

Go for 1gig for your minimum allocation and 2 for your max allocation, you might be able to get away with 2 min 3 max but as already stated you don't want to allocate ALL of your ram, you need some to run background OS processes. That should let you run some of the intermediate packs.
Also you can probably run Agrarian Skies becasue it's a sky block and not much goes on in the world.

He doesn't have 4gb ram. He has 1gb. He is asking if he should upgrade his ram to 4gb.

Until recently I was playing on an E2200 with 8gb ram and a 9800gtx. Your cpu will support a 64 bit install, and 4gb is the bare minimum I'd use on a ftb machine. Even if you upgrade your ram, you will likely have problems running packs over 120 mods even with 4gb ram. Your cpu will definitely be the weak point.

Is it worth getting the 4gb ram? I say...no. By the time you've bought your 4gb memory, you could have spent it on some DDR3 for a current'ish system. Save your money for a cpu/mobo/memory upgrade, and throw in a video card if yours is still agp.

Ohh, OK. The OP is a bit confusing their use of "I have" implied to me that that's the computer he currently owns

You can see why people are assuming he already has 4gig of ram to use.

Hey im sorry for all the confusion, and thank you guys sooo much for the help and knowledge! So i think i might just save up, get a bit more ram and then a better cpu, then just allocate 2 gb of ram and later get a good 800 dollar machine! Does this sound like a good plan to yall?

further evidence that supports the theory that posts between the first and last can be important. :p

I extend the same offer, its quite cheap to build a good computer if you already have a screen, mouse, and keyboard. If you wait till June 2nd, the new Pentium Anniversary edition is going to tear up the low end market in terms of performance per core.

Your computer won't be able to play any large 1.6 pack at acceptable framerates but you could try something like the Lite 2 pack.

Ok thats basically my planned build (more detail of course) but until that i think just upgrading ram and maybe cpu would work for me, I'm just wanting to play horizons or direwolf20 pack!
