It's kind of weird when you think about it. Before, I could explain to my friend, "Oh, it's a collection of Minecraft mods that let you automate stuff like tree chopping and item storage so it's easier to get building materials and stuff."... Now it's much harder. Now I say, "So there's a lot of mods, except most of them are just clutter and can't be used because there's another mod that is for some reason defaulted to being on, even in singleplayer, and the goal is to get machines from that mod so you can get more stuff to make more machines. And vanilla objectives like creativity and building are completely separate and you can do that on your own time".

It all depends on how you want to play the game. I like machines. So I build a bunch of machines. You don't have to build tier 3 Gregtech machines if you don't want to. If all you want to do is make fancy looking buildings, but you don't like chopping down trees, you can set up a tree farm, then make fancy looking buildings out of wood. Or if you prefer stone, just make a cobble generator and never dig again.

That's actually what makes working together on a server so useful. I hate making buildings and have no creativity when it comes to that. But I'm working together with a guy who loves making fancy buildings and really hates the machine side. There's another guy who's really into bees and considers having to make power or tree farms to be necessary evils to bee breeding. So working together, the bee guy never has to worry about power or whether or not we have enough gold or copper or etc. He just does the bee stuff. The building guy made our base actually look nice instead of just being ugly buildings, but he didn't have to mess around with anything else. And I never leave the base because all I do is make machines.

That's exactly how I used to play, when I played with my friend. He's a very easy going guy and doesn't get stressed about machine costs, you know? He just builds them and doesn't worry. But yeah, he's build the machines and I'd make his house for him.

I play on singleplayer usually and I don't mind machine costs. I had great fun making the galgadorian farmer and woodcutter recently (in the end the limiting factor was spider eyes and mushrooms imagine that). With gregtech machines the thing I usually forget about is getting a nice power infrastructure going so I am trying to improve my game there. The one thing I do object to is expensive or difficult to get decorative blocks. I don't mean to say that the mod authors should change it but if all I want is mahogany planks then I go in creative mode and build I don't get get the saplings or anything just the aesthetic block. I hate living in uninspiring buildings and some of the nice decorative blocks in MFR, railcraft, forestry and underground biomes are hard to find or difficult to get (at least in early game), so I usually plan out a nice house and build it in creative mode. I am careful to not mix anything up between my normal inventory and creative inventory and I have one rule which I adhere to strictly. ONLY pure aesthetic blocks. Nothing that can be harvested and turned into a machine. That way I am not tempted to look at my nice Iridium and Chrome block roof and make a nice cheap fusion reactor.

In short, expensive machines are one thing but if I am living in a boring mud hut or 9 by 9 those machines will never get built. Once I have a nice house built I go back into survival and play.

Then it should have MFR! From what I know of it, MFR is amazing and you should never go without it.
Don't worry for three reasons. 1. My pack is a magic and adventure pack, the only tech mods it has are BuildCraft and Forestry. 2. It is going to be in my season 2 pack. 3. I'm going to start messing around with MFR in my next FTB Ultimate world.

i dont get these responses. has it ever occurred to you all that some people enjoy racking their brains for fun?
Likewise I don't understand your response. Maybe to some people hunting for resources is a mentally strenuous task, but I never found it particularly difficult to go exploring for additional resources. It is a bit like driving to work every morning. Eventually you don't need to focus your mind on the route as you have it so thoroughly memorized.

Runic Dust just got re-upped into 1.5.2. You might wanna take a look. Some core functions for a magic pack. It'll give you tesseract-like functionality with magical runes (and yes, it works with pipes; the pipes eject into the world on top of the runes).

Next time I talk to Will (Serverhost, and Let's Play partner), I will ask him what mod doesn't have 1.5.2 support. Whenever I ask him (I want my extra bees!), he says one of the mods doesn't work with 1.5.2. I also might ask him to add the Ruins mod. Runic Dust looks awesome.

Magic mods are always so much harder to understand. Especially when you add in that a lot of people would rather read than watch a video. I guess it's like trying to teach a blind man what colors look like, when both people can learn braille.

But that's the joy of magic mods! TC3 is super easy to understand.
Anyone know how to start Ars Magica? I'm gonna start it in Episode 7 of my LP (probably not knowing that series, I will most likely end up just exploring and making a weapon :p), but still, it looks awesome.

FWIW, Resonant is backing away from Ars. The permissions are impossible and it really is a challenge to balance into a pack. You cannot remove fabricators without breaking the mod.

This is the reason I will always prefer single player games to multiplayer games.. Also why I'm not playing Elder Scrolls Online..

Thaumcraft has a thaumonominominominomicon that explains EVERYTHING in thaumcraft.

The only problem is that nobody in the fucking world bothers to read it and then they be like ''uh, i cont se ze aura nods y azanor fix yo mod!!1one!''

People! just read it and every question you have will be answered! specially the LPers...
