It took me a while to figure out how a recipe needs to be laid out in that thing. Does anything else use the same left-click system?

Anything using "ghost blocks" does. Including Forestry, Railcraft, Applied Energistics, and others.

Acually, most other things then foresty. Applied energetics, buildcraft and railcraft are te ones i can think of off the top of my head. All accept right click to place ghost blocks. Foresty is the only one that requires left click as far as i know.

(or did i just miss the point and thought of something completely diffrend?)

IIRC the Thermionic Fabricator does, too.

The thermionic is kind of like it but different, you can put items into the "pattern" window and use the inventory for extra resources, with the carpenter you can only ghost. Carpenter gui is easy to get used to but agree it's not very intuitive when first dealing with it, I remember the moistener being a bit odd too.
