We all know about the war between Ftb and Tekkit. But what happen with forge and bukkit?

Can't tell me you guys don't miss some of the great plugins.

Essentials, Towny, GP, Tree Assist (yes i know there are tree chop mods but none replace the sapling) and the other great ones that I can't think of at the moment.

So whatever happen between the 2 of em?

I am also Qurious about this since the only thing i know is that there is a problem and that as far as i understand it its mostly bukkit's fault

(on a side note not having the treecutting mod replant the saplings isnt really a problem is it?)

bukkit is a whole nother issue with compatability until now forge has had to be rewritten to be a part of bukkit however now someone is working on a forge compatible replacement for bukkit called forge essentials

From my understanding (and I've probably completely misunderstood), but it stems from Forge suggesting changes to CraftBukkit to make it more compatible with other Forge mods, but the Bukkit team felt it was more Forge's responsibility to make Forge compatible with CraftBukkit, not the other way round and it just sort of escalated from there. If I am correct (which I'm not saying at all that I am), then it's clear that neither side is to blame and of course this doesn't help resolve things and it seems likely to just contine indefinitely. But as urmamasllama (still love that username by the way) says we will be getting ForgeEssentials as a replacement to CraftBukkit and a few of the Bukkit plugins.

EDIT: Oh and I vaguely remember asking one of the Forge Esstentials guys and he said that they would be hopefully be releasing an API so plugins will be possible. (I'll see if I can find the post)

That all makes sense. And to answer the question about the saplings, well no not a big deal but was a damn good feature for that mod. Most of us (myself include) always forget to replant. So it is nice to have a plugin that did that.

For those who haven't seen it: This might provide you with some context on the matter. Forge wasn't asking for changes in CraftBukkit, they were asking -- in brief -- for some files regarding mappings that would've taken a couple minutes to put together and send so that an official "codex" could be put together rather than having to make cpw blindly shoot at things with every update. They got that reply in response to that request.

If that first sentence doesn't immediately raise your blood temperature/pressure, happily read further into it.

There's a lot of inside baseball/speculation I can provide as to why this is the case, but the bottom line is that Bukkit isn't interested in a partnership and in fact by that post appears threatened by the notion. That's their prerogative, I guess, but it's a silly bit of turf wrangling that doesn't help them one bit. The basic gist in the post, from the very first statement, is that they consider the Forge modding community too small and insignificant to give a damn about compared to the awesomeness that is them (we're the "party with the lower hand", in case it wasn't obvious).

And yet look at them now. Sure we don't have the plugins but let's all be truthful in saying that their good buddy's T####T are dead in the water and sinking fast. So long live the Forge. lol

Still would be nice to have some of the plugins.

After reading through, seems to me that the Bukkit people weren't wrong in their thinking. Insignificant or not, they have no reason to share their work with someone else just because it would make the other party's job easier. Developer collaboration is a beautiful thing (hence FTB), but they're not making money by writing Bukkit. To say something is 'hurting' them just isn't true. They're not really getting anything out of it to begin with.

And yet my friend, where is Tekkit at now? Still stuck at 1.2.5? If they would have just said yea let us help you out, then they would not be a sinking ship.

I've only played vanilla Minecraft up until about a week or so ago, so I'm not going to pretend I understand the full context here. But what do you mean sinking ship? It's a free project that is important to the authors and that's it (as far as I know anyway). They don't get anything out of it. They have nothing invested in it. There's no ship to sink, right?

The point is that Tekkit and Bukkit may some day come alive again. But as it stands now, without forge and the help from the other mod makers, They will have a damn hard time upgrading to the level that FTB has already reached and continues to reach. Can we live without the bukkit plugins?. Sure we can. Would it be nice to have some of the old plugins we use to use? Yes.

Are both sides right? Yes. Are both sides wrong? Yes again. It's just a matter of where you stand. I myself say that if bukkit would have just took the few mins to help forge out, well then they to would have been right here along side them and those fantastic plugin makers would get the fame they deserve.
