Slowpoke already said gregtech won't be in the ultimate pack..

rly? I thought it would be in "easy" mode, but I guess they might've changed their minds about that then.

Oh well, I guess I won't be looking forward to Ultimate anymore then and instead put my hopes on the Tech pack. Assuming GregTech will be in the Tech pack (I can't imagine a Tech without it though... it wouldn't be much of a tech pack then).
Or I'll just stick with Mindcrack.

I personally don't see why they would call it Ultimate though if it doesn't contain all mods, I thought the whole idea of Ultimate was to have everything in 1 pack... And then have other packs more suited for people with more specific tastes.

I think the reason that most people want the Ultimate Pack as soon as possibly is because, so long as all of the configs are set and all of the worldgen mods are in, they can just keep going without worrying about maybe having to restart their server worlds or their singleplayer saves, or end up making big changes later due to a lot of config changes.

I guess we'll see when the pack is released. If it doesn't have GregTech at all though I don't consider it to be worth the name of Ultimate. It might be intrusive and I see why people don't like that, but in easy mode it really isn't that bad and definitely worthy of being in the Ultimate pack.
If anything, removing it is always easier than adding it, so easy mode GregTech looks like the best solution to me. Anyone who think it's too easy can fiddle with the config and anyone who doesn't like it at all can just disable it.

On another topic, the Xycraft stuff looks cool, but I want to know what it does. Sure we see the results of some sort of mining laser, but we already have a mining laser... Also, the basic recipes. Some of that stuff looks pretty powerful (like the armor that can be upgraded to stay in water forever or grant you the ability to fly) so I'm guessing that kind of stuff won't cost 1 Xycraft crystal + some iron to make looking at how abundant all the Xycraft resources are. If Xycraft had some rare ores or something I could imagine those to play a key role in the creation of those machines/items, but non of the Xycraft resources are really rare, so I'm curious how that will balance out.
Looking at screenshots I basically see a lot of bright colors, but I'm still not convinced I want to keep Xycraft for anything other than some glowy blocks.

I reactivated my WoW account last week (after nearly 2 years away!) because I don't want to start yet another world and then have to do it all over again when the pack I'm actually waiting for comes out.

Yup, I just want all the configs set for the pack to function together. The beauty of an ultimate pack is with their launcher you can just pick and choose mods without any worry of anything conflicting. And you don't have to re-add crap every time the pack updates.

For me, the most frustrating part is the utter lack of communication. I follow FTB on twitter, and pretty much all I hear on there is "Slowpoke is streaming" - which is fine, but I want to know what's going ON. Yes, we have the list of what's coming, but it's pretty vague.

Their original graphic had different mods than are available. Obviously no one knows what's being put into the packs, how the private packs are going to work, and what the hold up is. My guess is if people actually KNEW what was going on, they would be more patient. The last time there was any update was 2 weeks ago - and a lot of the target dates have now passed (or are today).

I get it - shit happens, people have lives outside of MC/FTB, but if there was good communication, even with delays, people wouldn't be frustrated (IMO). Even a simple "hey guys, thanks for your patience, we're working on xyz" would suffice.

Pretty much the only way to get reliable information is to watch Slowpoke's videos on twitch, but you have to shift through him messing around for half the time for a glimpse of information. I remember when he was doing the World Generation testing for the Mindcrack pack he said which of the packs would have gregtech in it. Mindcrack, Ultimate, and Tech were said to have it. With Mindcrack set to hard. I don't remember which but, either ultimate or tech was said to be set to 'easy' while the other would have the mod disabled by default.

Some of the information we want about the packs is out there, but entirely inconvenient to get to.

I just put the stuff in mindcrack that isn't in the DW20 pack into the DW20 pack. Make sure you also move the mindcrack configs over as well, the mods will try to generate their own and it won't have the same IDs that will eventually be in the ultimate pack.

It's a little bit irritating that the added mods get wiped every time there's a new update though. At least it doesn't force you to wipe the configs as well, I'd probably just stop updating it then.

Well to those that simply don't want to remake a world, simply go with magic pack. All of the mods in this pack have their final item IDs and most of it run like a charm. (We're having some problems with a Mystcraft portal leading to a Buildcraft quarry in the Twilight Forest).

As soon as we get the ultimate pack we'll just load our server with it while using our magic pack map. As far as world gen goes we can just make new Mystcraft worlds when that happens to get what we want and don't lose anything in the process.

It's also surprisingly fun to play without generators, solar pannels, uranium, electricity, etc for a while. Some of our members have sworn it off entirely after trying stuff like Thaumcraft and running around in the Twilight Forest.

Just give Slowpoke and the others a break. They have no obligation to work on this or even share it with anyone. And yet here we are with new versions, mods and cool stories and worlds to share every day. Lets thank them and use a bit of patience.

Oh and about Gregtech and hardmodes. They'll probably just be disabled by default and all simply available through the config files. Which will probably take a big 5 minutes to change if you want it.

All the mods needed are out, I just want them all in one pack. That's it. I don't care if Mystcraft isn't done or Xycraft is only in beta, they are in different packs. Just put them all into one. Problem solved. Then I can finally stop being bored all day.

Personally I am avoiding using mystcraft until it updates. The new symbol system and celestial mechanics would make me want to remake any age I have anyway, except for a mining age of course. No more will finding symbols be a matter of creating 100 ages and copying the symbols to a notebook :D

bias? yes of course, I'm biased against mods taking it upon themselves to edit other peoples work because they arrogantly think that their way is better.
My arrogance? Look up the definition of the word before you ignorantly throw it around on the internet.

Gregtech balances IC2 to make it work better with GT. It's toggleable anyway.

For every person that hates Gregtech there is someone who loves it (like me :)), that is not the point of this thread however.

Well to those that simply don't want to remake a world, simply go with magic pack.
The problem is WorldGen.

Porting worlds to a new pack is not trivial, and even then you have venture out to new territory to get new WorldGen working, which can be a pain in Multiplayer, since then you don't know what was explored.

MagicPack is missing (does WorldGen):
-GregTech
-MFFS
-XyCraft
-ArsMagicka

MindCrack is missing (does WorldGen):
-ArsMagicka

ArsMagicka does permission, but there are still conflicting reports as to whether they have permission to distribute it.
