Thermal Expansion Item Pipes?

Is it known whether or not the TE Team is planning on adding an item pipe equivalent along side Liquiducts and Redstone Energy Cells?

They are excellent upgrades from basic piping and it would be nice to have an item transport system that didn't have quite the same problems as buildcraft or required you to bend over backwards so you could use tubes
 
No idea, but I do know someone asked about it on the MCF thread a loooong while back.
 
I heard him (Lemming) mention something along the lines of "wait till you see item conduits" in season 3 of dw's server play. Not sure if that's still a fact or not.

Seriously, he comes around so often, there's no reason to even try to summon him. Hey King Lemming, care to chime in on this one, please? I think they would be a great complement to TE.
 
But you did just summon him. :-) I'm curious to see what improvements Team CoFH could make, considering I never even realized liquid pipes could be improved the way liquiducts showed us. It's one of those things I didn't know I wanted until they showed me. Maybe a system similar to Redpower's, but with more intelligent routing (no backstuffing for example - when a chest has 1 item slot open up, you don't want 58 stacks of an item racing to it and all backstuffing to the nearest transposer).
 
Unless it could better AE in some way I think it would be rather pointless. Other than a couple of lag issues with the import/export buses (which I understand have since been fixed for next mod pack release) AE works pretty much flawlessly.
 
Its been planned, the details that has been said on slows stream

"The non overflow of tubes, intelligence for logicstics pipes and the simplicity of buildcraft"
And their called Item ducts i think.

You're reasoning for them not being added is that another mod does it? Every tube, pipe, conduit, valve, they all have their uses. I really don't want to set up an ME Controller network for every sub-job I do in my world where I can use a few BC pipes and forget it.

KL has impressed in the past with the entire mod basically. I really appreciate the attention to servers/lag as well.

judging by how liquiducts work, it would be basically an import bus- me cable - export bus system, without need of controller and storage, and, probably, no power requirements.
 
It's difficult to see how a simple, problem-free item transfer system could possibly exist. Where do items go if they have nowhere to go? Buildcraft pops them out, RedPower backstuffs them, not sure what MFR conveyor belts do when they hit logistical problems. What other systems are there and how do they handle excess items? There has to be a catch, because you can't feed infinite items into a finite system, and that will always be a problem that the player has to do something to solve.

i personally, hope that such 'pipes' first will check designated storage for available space, and only then will items to it. or simply send send items back to a storage like rp manager does

Applied Energistics gets close. Internal storage buffer equal to amount of available disk space in any disk in any ME chest or disk drive in the network. It might not be 'infinite', but it's exceedingly vast. And if you do exceed its storage capacity, it simply won't accept any more until you empty some.

Quite elegant, actually. Well worth the price you pay in constant energy drain, the risk you take by losing all your stuff by virtue of having your power cut (and thusly being unable to turn it back on since the materials necessary to do so are on disk which you can't access), and the general and overall expense of the system itself.

And if that storage is full? In any system like this, every answer opens up a question, unless the answer is "spit the item out or destroy it". Even Redpower has a problem with the backstuff buffer being filled, I think there's an item duplication bug that occurs when a machine gets a ridiculous amout backstuffed in it.[DOUBLEPOST=1368785733][/DOUBLEPOST]

AE can do that because the entire network is one seamless machine and item transfer is instantaneous. An item transfer system that is not instantaneous will always have latency conflicts where an inventory fills up before the item that's going to it gets there. Maybe ItemDucts will be instantaneous, and an item can't go in if it has nowhere to go. That would avoid the problem.

i hope it wont be that way(if it will ever happen, anyway), but i guess it would either a internal buffer, or external buffer. i dont see a point in basically making same thing as BC pipes do.

My favorite solution for this is RC one. You just load cart with how many items you want and send it to machine, where it will unload until all items are processed, when it will come back for more. No overflow possible (unless machine is spitting items when they have nowhere to go, like quarry). If carts were silent it would be perfect, but unfortunately EU sound muffler doesn't work with carts.
 
He said he will add an induction pipe for buildcraft (it tries to go into an inventory if it can't it goes to the next pipe on the line)
