My only hitch with AE is while I like its massive capability, it has a strong tendency to seem too easily automated for my tastes. You build the parts, put them together, power it, and it just works in such an automatic fashion. Items are spit out automatically, stored automatically, sorted automatically, it just seems like it is doing a bit too much for me without me having to do a whole lot in return. Maybe I'll give LP a look since I at least have to manually pull items out, figure out how to store them, and overall, it just seems more manual for my taste.

Request Pipe, or a Remote Requester, will pull any item to the pipe in question. Or it will craft, including subcombines, the item and put it in that pipe. Granted, you need a wall of automated crafting tables and crafting pipes, but honestly I think AE is more expensive for auto-crafting. On storage, at least, you do have a point. You could achieve the same thing with chests with Storage Buses attached, however AE does have the capacity for completely virtual storage.

Of course, LP (at least the original version, before it got forked) also doesn't require a constant energy flow to access your stuff stored on disk either....
