Is there an explination of everything in the taint biome? How to combat it? Any uses for it? What are the misquito type things I can't hit? Thaum book doesn't say anything about it.
Silverwood and ethereal blooms to combat it
Taint swarms

If you have Dye Trees installed, the rainbow tree also combats it.

Without mana beans, taint biomes are the only way I am aware of to get the vitium? (taint) aspect.

There is an actual hitbox for the taint swarm. The swarm that comes after you does have one. The swarms that are around the taint spore/spawner/block do not, as they aren't an actual entity, just a visual effect. It's hard to tell the difference, as they both look the same. The one around the block though will never move anywhere else, and will not give chase. When I've used a shock wand on it, I can see the "hitbox" gradually move back to the source spawner, and that one shows as on fire. So the taint swarm "spawner" looks like a normal taint block in the world, but it can be set on fire, and I assume take damage and eventually be destroyed.

does anything involve the vitium aspect? Basically it is within 20-30 blocks of my base. it isn't closing as there are silver trees blocking it. I would like to know if it can serve a purpose or somehow be of any benefit... If it doesn't I'll just scorch the place and put up a parking lot.

Scorch it up, and set up a mana bean farm for any taint you need.

I am of course going to have to put knockback II on the staff, as that only seems fitting. Although I am wondering about sharpness or smite.

I did cheat in some charged caps to test vis requirements, and using a full set of robes, the silver caps on a reed staff cost a discounted 50.6 vis, and the thaumium caps cost 75.4 (or something). It is just enough that I need to make a silverwood wand to craft it. (no frugal enchants on the focus)

From what I can tell, the silver and thaumium caps are the same discount on the four primals. It is only perdito and order that are a little less efficient. If that is the case, since I plan to use shock as my main attack, silver would work just fine on a stave.

Now all we need is a wand that recharges perdito & order to match up with equal trade...
Relevant: how to craft a thaumium capped silverwood staff with proper vis requirements met?

how do you even get all the vis for the staff? you have to start with a lesser staff?[DOUBLEPOST=1393991727][/DOUBLEPOST]
Try putting a Frugal III focus on the wand you're using to craft?
nope frugal doesn't work like that. frugal only works with foci

Unless it was changed in 4.1, a frugal enchant on a wand foci, does decrease the amount of vis required when the wand is in the crafting table (with the frugal enchanted foci equipped).[DOUBLEPOST=1393992119][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, if anyone is interested, the caps on a staff do not change the amount of physical damage when the staff is swung as a weapon. I experimented with my reed staff, and the same +6 damage was listed if I used silver or thaumium end caps.

I've been trying to figure out how to make my infusion altar setup and still keep the aspect jars nearby for use in crafting. With my base being a 25 block diameter tower, and the new 4.1 changes with essentia tubes, I just couldn't come up with a plan that I liked. Then it dawned on me. I can use the essentia mirrors to have my aspect jars in a completely different location and not worry about a thing. Has anyone else thought of this to clean up their infusion altar space? No more derpy golems getting stuck on heads on the floor! :)

FYI Thaumcraft 4.1.0f just released with bunch of bug fixes and small changes

I could not damage them with a melee weapon until I got a Sword of the Zephyr. My TiCo weapons were useless. They *should* also take damage from a wand.

As for a tainted biome, there are usually tainted nodes. You have to kill those. There may also be other tainted stuff you have to destroy. I heard there was some block at bedrock level that has to be destroyed. Not sure if that's true and not sure how to find it.

As for the mosquitos, you have to kill their swawner. It doesn't look like a vanilla spawner, it's a bit harder to see. It looks like a dark dirt block.

I'm sure this has been brought up before but i gotta know the answer. There are goggles of revealing and boots of the traveller modifications to the runic armor, but why is there no modification to allow the thaumostatic harness to be included in the runic chestpeice? It just makes sense to me that it should so that a magician can wear full runic armor while having all the abilities of the other armor peices in thaumcraft.

Well, azanor did add the runic boots of the traveler since dw20 asked for them. Maybe the harness will get added in too.

I have yet to unlock infusion enchanting. Anyone know the research/item needed to unlock it? Also, it looks like there is another staff down below the greatwood staff. It currently shows as missing research required. Is there another type of staff besides the ones that match up with the wands?

Under the great wood wand core is the silver wood wand core but you have to unlock infusion crafting first otherwise it will say missing required research

Wait, why were people complaining about the new alembic mechanics again? I finally tried them out, and I feel that using a stack of warded jars on them is a lot better than how things were before. Why would you need to automate something as specific as infusion anyway, unless you have Direwolf's setup

I just used a single alembic with 3 pipes attached and jars under that since i was low on gold needed for more alembics. Just make sure to not add empty jars until there are aspects stored in the alembic. Otherwise you could end up the same aspect in each jar.

After getting my golem, I still only use the single alembic. The aspects are stored in the furnace until there is space for them in the alembic.

Is there a reason I can't enchant a staff after finally gathering up the strength to pick up TC again?
