That's something for me to look into, then. Never been exposed to a net.

Jailer Safari Net can be used to catch and release mobs. Whatever mob you release from it will be permanently stuck in the world and won't despawn, barring some freak glitch. :)

You know, for every "extremely efficient" cookie cutter design there's a "this is innovative and cool but not exactly efficient". I like the latter ones better. Or design a new home! Live in a nuclear submarine, complete with reactors and several machines and scuba diving sets and diesel generators for when the reactor stops working...
Or a floating castle (possibly a Steampunk one)! Think outside the box. Build your entire base in a single chunk with the Quarry acting as a chunkloader and taking 64x64. And make an elevator system using IC2, AE, MFR, Obsidian Pressure Plates and Dispensers.
The possibilities are endless. You just have to do something you've never done before.

You're really right, especially about not doing things the perfect, efficient way, but giving yourself a challenge. For example, I'm not going to go with a quarry in this run-through because of this suggestion. It's finally time for me to explore Steve's carts.[DOUBLEPOST=1376268979][/DOUBLEPOST]

This reminds me of the enderman who jumped into the center of my ethanol-filled iron tank and just hung out there for hours. I thought he was a fixture, named him Bob, then he disappeared.

Building a base inside an active quarry sounds... interesting... especially if you flood the quarry so you can't just cover your roof with lava.

Another "making things harder" sort of thing that I've done is to use Railcraft signal controller and receiver boxes instead of any other wireless device.
Not many people know that a signal controller box can double as a wireless transmitter, and a signal receiver box can act as a wireless receiver. It's not as user-friendly or intuitive as a certain mod by ChickenBones dedicated to wirelessly delivering redstone signals, but it is harder for other players to see what you're doing (there is no Redstone Ether) or mess with your stuff. So it could be useful for PvP servers.
