I think I've all but finished it. I installed the turtle killswitch with the pistons pushing blocks underneath them, added a switch for the pipe engines and closed off the back of the grinder with the mobcage switch and a reinforced door.

I should mention I used a pair of Item Tesseracts to transport items from the grinder to the barrels. You could argue that Ender Chests might be less of an effort to make, however I have 10 of them lying around, so I'm looking for excuses.[DOUBLEPOST=1368895208][/DOUBLEPOST]
Well, the gunpowder, glowstone and redstone are really useful, sticks are nice to have around, the potions are OK but a bit meh, but glass bottles and sugar are basically just free scrap.
With flan's mod installed, gunpowder's awesome to have a farm of.

It's not bad for iTNT either for the implosion compressor.[DOUBLEPOST=1368895268][/DOUBLEPOST]I should check if my chunk loader reaches this farm.

Go ahead I would like to see the build. I plan to add images of my SMP tower and grinder to my I gur account later.

Alright, here's a quick rundown.

This is the main part of the farm. A 6 x 7 line of conveyor belts pointed towards melee turtles below a Tier 5 Soul Shard'd monster cage (witch) which has a wireless redstone receiver pointed at it (2110)
There are two switches. 2110 is hooked up to the monster cage. When the cage is given a redstone signal, it shuts it off. This also opens a door to the back of the grinder where pipes are hooked up behind the turtles and the items it receives upon killing the witches are pumped into an item tesseract.
The second switch (2220) is hooked up to the turtle kill switch which pushes blocks underneath the turtle which contradicts the programming loop that the turtles run on to stop them from attacking.
Items are then taken from the tesseract to a second one which transports the items via more BC pipes into the tops of barrels. The pipes are covered with facade panels to hide the mess.
I've yet to see any spawn, however if witches should spawn outside of the grinder, there are batteries of turrets behind iron bars waiting for them. I've yet to test it's efficiency.
Each turtle does 10 points of damage per swing to witches and most other mobs (9 to zombies/angry zombies). Even with the Witch's regen potion, this makes them efficient grinders, killing them in just 3-4 swings.

Note: Witches drop 10 different items
0-6 redstone/glowstone/gunpowder/spider eyes/glass bottles/sticks/sugar
1 Potion of Health*
1 Potion of Fire Resistance**
1 Potion of Swiftness**

* Rare Drop
** Very Rare Drop

I just tested portal turrets vs witches.
A battery of two turrets can vs well against a single witch, more than two is a 50/50 chance however they can't handle more than that at all.
Bottles can also be thrown through iron bars and they can be killed by them.

I like the wireless rout you went, my grinder is a mess of jacketed wire. Thankfully I have about 1000 stacks of bricks for building materials thanks to a small brick factory I made. Igneous extruder to powered furnace dumping to a chest, a xycraft fabricator to make the bricks and a sorting machine to pull them out and place them in a barrel with extra-dimmentional upgrade on it. Got a second one one the same tube system for brick stairs, I just fill the chest with bricks and change the recipe on the fabricator.

As I mentioned earlier, I only used tesseracts because I had some lying around.
I find ender chests to be more cost-effective and less complicated to build, considering you need an Induction Smelter, a Liquid Transposer and a Magma Crucible to make any tesseract, whereas you can make ender chests notoriously easily.

Obsidian is just a minium stone and two logs away from acquiring.
Ender Pearls are a minium stone and 4 iron ingots
Wool is 4 string or a sheep shearing farm away.
A Blaze Rod can be macerated into 5 powder, 2 of which with a minium stone can be crafted back into a blaze rod. So really you could have infinite rods.

The minium stone is so broken :'D

I should also mention that using redpower tubes and tesseracts is a pain. You need to buffer tesseracts and tubes with a relay.

Crazy thought, what if I applied more spawners for different types of mobs and levers for each one, making it a multi-mob spawner?

Pig/Cow/Chicken spawner with the drops run through an electric furnace or two, powered by the methane from the zombie spawner. That would be an awesome way to get food.

How do you get methane? Rotten Flesh into a Magma Crucible?

As for the food situation, I find that my bee farms make a fair bit of ambrosia which is more than enough to keep me sustained.

Oh, I assumed you are using Gregtech, in which case you put foods or rotten flesh into an industrial centrifuge and you get methane cells. You do the same with rubber wood. If your not using Gregtech, then basic IC2 machines like the electric furnace can actually run on redstone put into the battery slot. So a witch spawner could fuel them nicely.

Edit: I just tested, and it seems an electric furnace will work on redstone with overclockers, but it burns a lot more redstone per smelt. An induction furnace will also run on redstone, and seems to waste less redstone.

From a cold start its only used 4 pieces of redstone to smelt 28 items. Two of that redstone was to fill the internal buffer.

Edit 2: I just found an unknown IC2 bug, the induction furnace does not use any redstone to warm up, it just uses 2 pieces to fill its internal buffer and then it warms up to 100% heat without consuming any more.

Final Edit: This is so bugged, or just very wise about power usage. It only took 2 pieces of redstone to get the furnace to 100% heat. It only took 2 more pieces to smelt 2 stacks of items. Assuming you only put items into one slot of the furnace, that is still only one piece of redstone per 32 items.

I think this is a really cool build - you definitely should add some more mob types (if you can get the shards). One thing - why didn't you just make the turtles react to redstone signal rather than block under? Less laggy and noisy.

a good way to kill mobs is arcane levitators into quicksand and use obsidian pipes and water to pick up drops. does pretty good at killing mobs then portal gun turrets in my opinion.
