the stuff providing power to the grinder is chunk loaded? maybe it's not that mobs don't spawn, it's that the grinder doesn't kill them and they gradually despawn
same thing for your system

I was thinking this but I don't a T5 shard would stop spawning mobs once a limit is hit. I could be wrong. I have observed my T5 shards slowing down when a lot of mobs were within a certain proximity. It could be that moving the skeletons further from the shard before killing might fix some issues. I am not sold on this though.

The spawning algorithm is the same as for the vanilla spawners. It checks a 17x9x17 area centered around the soul cage and won't spawn additional mobs, if there are 6 or more mobs of the same type are already in this area. If you can't kill them fast enough, then the easiest workaround is probably to drop them a couple of blocks.

What type of chunk loader are using (world anchor, personal, spot loader, etc)? I can't tell due to the texture pack you are using.
I use the chunk loader from chickenchunks

How are they being killed?
I kill them with mob grinders

I made my setup with a grinder in a 5x5x5 room....usually under ground so no spawns outside of the room. Can use 3block thick walls also. Grinder kills in a 5 block area in front so no water or some move controll needed. And it kills fast enough. It worked in my single player world. with the Chunk Loader from chicken bones.

Did you actually check if the power source is chunkloaded when you're not there? ChickenChunks Chunkloaders can show what areas they are loading.

This isn't true, or wasn't true in Ultimate. I had what felt like 30 creepers in my drowner.

How far away were the creepers from the soul cage?

I tend to build 9x5x9 spawners and if the mobs don't get killed fast enough, then the spawner does slow down.

It was an 11x11 room with a... 4 block drop to the water/drowner? The water was arranged though that they would be pulled into the center.

EDIT: does it count from the "feet" of the creeper? If so I think it was out of that range then, come to think of it. But just barely.

How far above the floor of your trap is your spawner? If I recall correctly the mobs need a surface to spawn on. I believe they can spawn from one level above to one level below the actual spawner.

A floor is not needed. I have made farms with the spawner floating 20-30 blocks above the floor and they worked fine.

Ah, maybe that is a vanilla only spawn rule, or it changed. Well, I got nothing else to offer here.

A surface to spawn on is for dark room spawning. For vanilla spawners, I've found that they will spawn mid air even if they will proceed to fall to their death as long as you're close enough.

OK, but what about when you're NOT nearby? It is possible that the mobs are spawning, but not being killed because the grinder is getting no power. Make sure that the power source (and everything needed to keep it running) is inside the chunk loader boundaries too.

This is looking like some kind of chunk loading issue. what type of chunk loaders are you using? have you tried using cheat mode to swap them out with another type and checked if it behaves any different?

remember, all it takes to cause the entire thing to grind to a halt, is a single piece of pipe or red alloy wire to be outside the boundary of what is being loaded.

In my experience on my server, mobs only spawn when nobody is in the dimension. It may just be due to a vanilla mechanic where all mobs just despawn if there isn't a player within a 256 block range(I think). I have my spawners in the nether, and they run when I am in the overworld. But the spawners in my base don't work unless I am actaully inside or near my base. And all of my spawners are chunkloaded as well. But I think this is only a server thing, single player is different.[DOUBLEPOST=1381489350][/DOUBLEPOST]
Yes the chunks are loaded i have in the chunkloader config ingame 49 chunks enabled.

i use to turn the spawner off the red alloy wire from redpower with a standard lever
Just so you know, 49 chunks for the spawner alone is overkill. 5,9,or 15 should be fine unless you have other things that need to be chunkloaded. I personally like to compact my spawners into 1 chunk spaces.

The Spawner is where the on skelelton stands in the picture in this thread

It is in the range of the chunkloader

yes i need other things chunkloaded because there is also a tank for mobessence from wither skelletons an my normal xp farm (angry zombie and normal zombiespawner) to enchant books
