Solution: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/thr...ical-turbines-big-reactors.59386/#post-871665

Hi guys,

So over the past 2 weeks I've been doing a lot of interesting stuff with the Big Reactors mod, replicating a real life power station.

However I've come into quite an annoying issue that I'd like advice on - The issue being for some reason different turbines seem to spin at different speeds and have massively varying (stable) outputs despite being completely identical.

All of the pipes connecting them are fine as is the reactor outputting the Steam which has plenty to spare.

Here's a breakdown of the issue on one of my two power stations (Both have the same issue on at least 1 turbine):

Turbine 1 (Working fine): Steam intake: 2000mB, Spinning at ~1781 RPM, Output: ~28059 RF/t, Efficiency 100%.

Turbine 2 (Problematic one): Steam intake: 2000mB, Spinning at ~~1571 RPM, Output: ~15284 RF/t, Efficiency 100%.

Now as I've said both of these are completely identical (In-fact I've tried both hand building it to the same spec and also used WorldEdit to copy and paste it, but I still have the same issues).

Here's an overview of them (Left: 1, Right: 2):

Inside #2:

Reactor Stats (Stored Steam highlighted):

Turbine 2 Stats showing stored steam and water:

Can anyone explain why I seem to be running into this issue? I've tried restarting everything and it still seems to be problematic - My other power station has been running for over a week and I still seem to be having the same issue (In-case it's a spin-up delay which lasts days).

Is this a known bug?

Thanks for your replies,
Chris

You dont have enough steam. If you look at the computer it says its producing at 5200 mb/t and your useing 8000 mb/t at least i think there are 4 turbines all trying to use 2000mb/t

I have plenty - Check the steam storage on the reactor. The other two turbines (Off to the right) are not active yet and will be on another reactor anyway. There are only two connected to that reactor and each turbine obviously has a maximum of 2000mB/t. So the reactor which is active says its producing 5200mB/t (Varies between 4000-5600mB) so it definitely seems sufficient.

I have also tried disabling the Turbine which has 28k RF/t output and it doesn't affect the problematic one in any way (Doesn't have any higher RPM).

Any more ideas?

oh wait you lowere the steam input dont you

I don't quite understand what you're getting at - The problematic one (As well as the good one) are not RPM limited and I'm putting as much steam as I can into them. They seem to be behaving much differently though despite being completely identical.

Any more ideas anyone?

What kind of blocks are those that you are building with outside the turbines? Looks like Iron blocks?

Yeah they are Iron Blocks
I recently had the same problem when building these:

After lots of experimentation and frustration I discovered that any metal blocks in proximity to the turbines(even outside the turbine) will/can actually count as induction coils. The problem might not become immediately apparent as the turbine only updates its coils after part of the turbine have been broken and replaced.

If you(like me) really want to keep the metal block look, you can use Carpenter's blocks and apply the Iron blocks to them. They will not work as Induction coils this way. Just remember to "reboot" the turbines by breaking part of them and replacing it once you are done removing/replacing all the iron/metal blocks near them.

Looks awesome! I'll give it a go, funnily enough thinking of it the other faulty one in the other Turbine Hall is the only one out of 6 which is hugging the iron wall and is the only one having issues.

Cheers!

Out of interest what texture pack are you using by the way?

Thought as much :p
For me both turbines ran perfectly. Then I build much of the cosmetic stuff around then and they still worked perfectly. Then I had to move the controllers(to avoid them getting covered up) and from that moment on they started running like crap. Turned out that it was because moving the controller had updated the coils and all the Silver blocks I had used got detected.

Just done what you suggested and... it works! Thank you so much!

I think I'll add that solution/bug to a few of the FTB Wiki's because that issue is quite frustrating and not obvious.

Thanks again!
