I started playing Unstable on my server the other day(It was a pain in the arse to get working. >.>) Within the first two hours, my friend crashed three times, every time trying to craft a TiCo blank pattern.

I'll, instead of focusing on the Mod dev and 1.7 stuff, will comment on something that i don't believe will get enough attention over the lifespan of this thread.

Yes, 1.6 is becoming "stagnate" as all the modpacks are hitting or have hit their final versions. While, yes, this means that the older packs won't change anymore, it does mean that there won't be any world restarts or issues with updates/additions to the pack that adds extra world gen. You seem to think ill of their unchanging from now on. Their unchanging means that people can finally settle down and play a world for an extended length of time.
I can't really express how much I agree with this. I tend to become attached to my worlds, and I recall MC's beta phase when regular updates and the inability to reliably run old versions made worlds inaccessible again and again. It made be stop playing back then. There are so many mods in the 1.6.4 packs that you can play for a year and still haven't explored half of their content. Also, I'm playing to build cool and beautiful stuff. If I want things to change in my world, I change them. Most of the time, I'm hampered much more by the limits of my own creativity than a lack of new mod content. Things only get annoying when a newer mod version for 1.7 has something I desperately wanted and I can't get it because I'm still on 1.6.

No it is not.

The only people that determine if a modpack is an official pack are Slowpoke, me and Eyamaz. The people with the banner that reads "FTB Pack Developer".

Unstable is not now or ever going to be an official pack. It is an unofficial testing tool for developers.
I said that it's an FTB pack, meaning it's a pack made by the FTB team. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain it is/was made by you and/or Eya.

You are wrong. It is made and maintained by an anonymous team member. It is under FTB Team so it sorts correctly on the launcher. We have tweeted and posted on the forums several times that it is not made by the FTB Modpack Team and that it is not an official pack.

Huh. I could've sworn Eya posted at some point saying that he made it, or something of the like. I don't browse twitter, I mostly use it to make jokes about what Law tweets :p

Thanks for clearing that up for me, though.

Official or Unofficial, either way there's far less "when are we getting a pack for crap.derp.meh?" posts and threads, and for that we are grateful.

I have contributed to what is in the pack for testing as well as configuring some of the files for future use (like the biome IDs,) but it is not mine.
Somewhere at some time I said it was the Official Unofficial Bug Testing pack or some such other nonsense.

The pack was created to help work issues out of the first ports of forge and some mods. Unstable will more than likely not be updated after we start the official packs.

A real danger. It's something we're trying to counter-act in Resonant Rise with HQM. Just getting people to build a few things often triggers a torrent of activity and experimentation.

I obviously wouldn't put it that way. ;) I'd say it more like this:

Look, all of us here are like the 1% of minecraft. We've put probably too much time into it. Most people haven't done that, and we shouldn't treat them like they're bad at games or life just because they haven't paid attention to the constantly evolving Minecraft ecosystem.

If we want skilled friends to play with, we may have to teach them. Modded Minecraft is a community as much as a game, and we're all responsible for making it better.

I will say that the HQM has definitely helped me in the stagnation department on AgS. There are so many things that I just normally would not do in a single play through that I have done in AgS because of the quests. It's also made hardcore a bit more fun. Having only 1 life always seemed rather extreme since there are just so many ways to glitch death with Minecraft. Having a few to help out with the stupid deaths sure does help.

HQM has also led to me discovering (and using) a few new mods that I never really used before although they were often included in the packs I played.

Watching a few of the LPs on Youtube such as DW20 and PurpleMentat have given me some ideas to use and often avoiding the pitfalls on my play-through. Some of the ideas I've seen posted here have provided a spark that influences my own builds. My own goal of having an aestethic build without pipes and cables visible all over the place has definitely brought about its own challenges but has also provided unique solutions to the problem that I would have not experimented with otherwise.

I'm about 1/2 way done or so in rebuilding my base in the style I have chosen and I still have a ways to go through the pack. I have only really set up the most basic of systems and I have not yet gotten bored, which is a plus.
