Mining turtle with a spot chunk loader set to excavate a fairly large area and dump into an enderchest. There are refuel programs out there that are easy to use. Multiple turtles can clear it out faster than you can use it. If you find large enough lava lakes you shouldn't have to refuel often.

Not a response to saice.

Ok guys thank you for all your suggestions and help also I'm using 152wgt pack so I can't just go make a tunnel bore also I'm on a server (private) but I don't think we are allowed to use mystcraft

as far as I can see, the 152wgt pack contains 2 mods with tunnelbores. okay, one tunnelbore and a system of carts with borehead. not really fully automateable, but still quite good...

OK so we get back to the OT or at least the spirit of the OT as this could be an interesting thought experiment.

Ok say your Server Admin has banned all travel out of the overwold on pain of Ban. No Nether, No End, No TF, No Mystcrft, No DimDoor..... you get the idea. Overworld only.

So hypothetically how would you go about getting the Netherack? Bonus if we can find a realable way to get the other off world matirals too.

Travel to a different server.

Travel to a different server.

its a thought experiment. That is not an option. The Admin will hunt you down and kill you. He will your faimly, you dog, your freinds, people you passed on the street.... He will even kill people that owed you money.

So lets say thats not an option.

My brain screams UU-matter. You would need to create the glowstone needed from IC2's hidden recipe (redstone and gold dust).
But for the sake of the thought experiment, I'd go for the Tome of Alkahes- wait, no, requires a Wither Skeleton Skull and a netherrack as a pattern, as well as some other Nether stuff.
Only other thing I can think of would be pulverizing nether ores from the MFR laser thing.
Unless some Ars Magica towers include netherrack... Which wouldn't be renewable. Could provide the pattern for Alkahestry, but you'd still need the wither skull.
Perhaps Ars adds some spell that can convert something into netherrack?

Custom Recipes Mod probably isn't OK, either.

I doubt that adding renewable Netherrack is high on any modder's list, seeing as there is so much of it.

GregTech has no method of turning netherrack dust back into netherrack. There's no way to produce the stuff either, aside from macerating netherrack or scrapboxes.

Also, is MineChem allowed, since it's not updated to 1.5?
Netherrack seems to be a mix of Silicon, Oxygen, and Iron. Silicon and Oxygen are easy (decompose cobblestone), while Iron, I suppose, could be provided by bees.

Speaking of which, it doesn't look like there are any bees that produce netherrack directly. I could be wrong, though.

*looks up Netherrack recipes in NEI, current recommended Ultimate pack*

The Scrapbox Lottery can provide netherrack, as someone mentioned.

Ooh, cooking cobblestone in a Soul Forge produces Netherrack... You'll need soul sand and glowstone for the fuel, though. MFR Sludge Boiler connected to a Harverster provides soul sand (occasinnally), glowstone can be obtained from IC2's recipe and bees producing redstone and gold. If I remember correctly, the bees that make glowstone directly are in the Nether branch, so that won't work.

The Fire Basin from Xycraft shares netherrack's essential property of eternal fire- but requires red xychoridite, which isn't renewable.

Oh, it also seems that (with GregTech in 1.4.7) pulverizing nether ores of Power Crystals gives the same bonus product that pulverising their overworld counterparts does.
In 1.5.2 without Nether Ores or GregTech, the pulverizer doesn't even recognize Nether Quartz Ore or either of the Tinkers Construce nether ores.

All told, the best choices (in my opinion) look like chucking iron derived from bees (or nuclear fusion, or one of MineChem's various exploits) into MineChem, or throwing lots of bee products into a Soul Forge.

I assume by a 'system of carts' you mean steves carts? Becuase that most certainly is fully automateable. In fact, a SC tunnel bore is pretty much the most maintenance-free automining system there is. Not to mention far faster than anything without using frames.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's pretty much just "set and forget." All you need to do is provide it with fuel (a lava-powered engine has basically infinite fuel in the Nether) and tracks.

There is around about 500 quadrillion blocks in the Nether to mine. You really don't need to worry about a renewable source for it.

Just to put that into perspective: If you have 500 people on your server, and they mined Netherrack once every second 24/7, it would take about 32 million YEARS to mine out the nether.

Heck, even if you got every single person on the entire planet to do absolutely nothing but mine netherrack, it would still take about 2.2 years to clear it out.

Not infinite mind you ( computers aren't capable of infinities ), but for all intents and purposes it is. Since it's so easy to get the netherrack itself, you don't need to bother building anything else.

The overworld is 10 million from each direction from 0 0.
The height limit is half of the over world (The nether can be build on on top of the bedrock ceiling, but it's only set to go up to the old overworld hight limit) and is 1/8 the size, so 1250000 blocks from 0 0. So let's say all Nether was netherrack, and full of it in every spot possible, there would be 160 000 000 blocks of Netherrack. So, don't worry about running out any time soon.

WARNING! RANT IN SPOILER!
I did math and proved the amount. which is 160 Billion. Now let's see. An efficiency 4 diamond pick can break 5 netherrack in a second. Let's say you got unbreaking 10 on the pick (won't lose ANY duribility) and efficency 4. It would take: 1 year, 5 days, 8 hours, 52 minutes and 19 seconds, or 1:5:8:52:19. So it would take a year on your own, not MILLIONS. maybe 2 or 3 years, since you need to eat, drink, sleep, and use the bathroom.

Now, let's see by YOUR numbers if they'll match up. If you have 500 quadrillion netherrack, it would take 6 337 617 562 805 790 years for 500 people, not 2.2 million. If everyone on the world were to mine out the nether, it would take 444 892 546 years. Yeah, if you want to say something's infinite, expect people to prove you wrong.

And BTW, the nether is HALF netherrack, so it would be 185 days, 4 hours, 24 minutes and 39 seconds actually. So up to one or two years to mine the nether out 24/7 with the exceptions of what I said. So he MAY of mined out the nether already, if he's had a world since Alpha 1.2.6, considering of how long it WOULD actually take.
Now, done with the rant. I checked both, and if you put UU matter in a square like:
X X U you get 16 netherrack, but only in the wgt.
X U X
U X X
X=nothing. U=UU matter

Good otherwise you have some weird calculator but anyways lol press log and it should come up with infinity random comment

After the BETA 1.7 update, the max distance from 0 0 is 10 million. it use to be 50 000 from each direction. So, yeah, not infinite for anything, but near enough.

Lost as always
Glowstone has a recipe in IC2 made with gold dust and redstone dust

Soulsand is a rare byproduct of sludge boiler

Use these in a Soul Forge with Cobblestone to produce Netherrack.

From there, use MFR's ability to cook Netherrack into bricks and combine to make Nether Brick.

the soul forge was mainly for shards, and the shards are now made in an weird way, including end stone, soul sand and (possably) obsidian.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this:
Cobblestone in a Soul Forge.
PRoblem solved.
And the other stuff can be gotten renewably also.

This has been mentioned a bunch of times already. People have mostly been talking about how to get the materials needed for a Soul Forge without going to the Nether, since it needs glowstone and soul sand.

that, plus when FTB updates it's main modpacks into 1.5 or 1.6 or whenever, the Soul forge won't be an option, since they're removed.

Glowstone has a secret IC2 recipe, Gold Dust and Redstone.
Soul Sand...
Sludge Boiler.
I'm kinda new to MFR, but I was interested on what the Boiler made after DW's video, so that's a nice odd fact to know.
Please don't hate me if it turns out everything I just said was said before.
