The bouncyful update that broke all the things and made everything overly complex without much benefit
And added a watered down copy of frames that doubles as a bouncy block that only bounces people on top of it instead of the more believable all sides bounce!

Hmm... I've got an idea about @Reika's update marquee thing. What if it got more insistent the further the mods were out of date? Maybe, for the first couple days since the release of a new version, it lasted long enough to scroll through all the outdated mods once, then stayed up for a minute or two longer each day afterward?

Note: I'm still on v3 for fear that he'll update again the next day and I'll have to deal with the marquee until I download all the mods AGAIN, which is annoying because big downloads and adfly five times over... (no offense intended; your mods are cool- worth the hassle every once in a while, but not two days in a row) [EDIT: Ok, wow, did not realize that Reika's moved away form adfly. Thanks for that, Reika, and thanks to Coolsquid for alerting me of this. I'll update next time I get around to booting up my custom pack instance.]

*sigh* apparently I'm in a 'mood'. Sorry for the length of the post. I obviously feel strongly about these subjects and I'm sorry if I offend anyone. That's not my goal. I'm trying to engender understanding here, even if my methods are quite often abrasive.

That's still not acceptable. If Buildcraft had done that I would have been forced to look at an ever-more-annoying nag banner for... you know I'm not going to go figure out the total time for 1.7 and DragonAPI.
I would have been annoyed because I CANNOT update my mod pack. PERIOD. No ifs, ands, or buts. My options are "break the world", "not play", or "put up with nag screen"... I'll put up with the nag screen and bitch out the mod author every single time I see it. Because that Hobson's Choice (well ok, not a traditional one, there's two options in addition to "abstain") is flat-out unacceptable.

WHY does a mod author have any right to force this choice onto me? No seriously? What gives them a right to wreck my game experience with no method of making it stop? The command isn't good enough for servers, having to teach users to be admins is SO not my job. Having it pop back up all the time isn't good enough. Look into what CoolSquid has for pack makers notifications, maybe that will be more acceptable. There are policies you can put in place that you can fall back on to filter out basically all of the idiots that give you outdated bug reports without taking a lot of time. State that all bug reports not stating the version and/or containing a FULL log file will be removed/closed/ignored and then DO THAT. If that seriously takes more time than the way things currently work... I don't know what to tell you other than I'm sorry. As far as I am concerned NOTHING gives ANYONE the right to purposefully give me a headache as a server admin. As a programming-related content creator, part of reality is you are GOING to be dealing with idiots. There's nothing you or anyone else can do about it. It sucks. Fostering it off on people whose jobs are already difficult, stressful, and under-appreciated because YOUR job is difficult, stressful, and under-appreciated is a PERFECT example of "eye for an eye and the world goes blind".

What I don't get is why this is so hard to comprehend. Have you NEVER administrated a server before? Can you not see the hypocrisy in saying "There's no reason to not update my mods" when a simple role reversal for 3/4 the bug reports you got while working on V2, V3, and V4 of your mods would point out that there's an actual reason why people CANNOT update a mod for large stretches of time? Now if it was disabled unless you had a "final version" flag tripped in the update checker somewhere? THAT makes some sense. Because there should be no reason not to update to v25 for 1.6.

Have you seen the kinds of things that are possible with slime blocks? The bouncy effect is actually very VERY useful. The frame effect is also nice, though tricky to use because there's no "closing/blocking" mechanic.
Also just because YOU don't use something doesn't mean it's useless. There are plenty of 1.8 changes that I'm eagerly awaiting.

On the topic of Serendipity, I'm just going to say that I don't appreciate being a member of a community that can't see the other side of the debate and arrogantly forces people to shut down thriving communities. The arguments used show a distinct lack of understanding of actual word definitions, and how people really spend money. Personally I think the MC EULA went WAY too far in response to the "no pay to win" issue. It blocked too many avenues of servers obtaining money in a responsible manner. People DO NOT DONATE ENOUGH with no hard incentive to support large servers. Why do you think kickstarter and patreon have reward tiers? Shits and giggles?
I'm aware that fireball wasn't aiming to shut down serendipity. But everyone involved could have easily handled this in a manner which didn't sic a toxic and immature rabid fanbase at them. The only result of that was going to be a server shutdown! Your rights are important, and could have been served without destroying a community which people obviously strongly cared about. How would you like it if some person had some problem with the server you were running, told a huge player base, and as a result your server had to shut down? How about if you'd been playing on that server with your friends for two years with lots of memories and joint builds?
I never played on serendipity, but I can perfectly understand why the owners and players are reacting the way they are. I've never been a fan of crusades, and that's what happened in this case. Which is sad, and I really hope that everyone (involved or not) takes note of the number of people whose gameplay experience was ruined by these actions and endeavors to treat matters like this more delicately and in good faith in the future. The f'd up toxicity and drama in this community start and end with community members. Stop giving fuel to the fire! THINK about the likely consequences of your actions, because posting in a public venue is a great way to incite a mob.

Reika isn't using AdFly anymore, thanks to his lovely Patreons.
