As far as I know Optifine is a jarmod- seems to work ok.

Its best to think of it as a total rewrite of the MC code; a full unique game with the minecraft engine rather than an individual mod.
If "ok" means "with poor performance and lots of render errors".
It simply is not properly compatible with the Forge render engine.
I personally think that while 1.5.X is superior to 1.6.X, 1.6.X is still playable and is still acceptable to my standards.

Oh god. I love those people that ban things on their server for being "unbalanced". I've been playing on the DNS pack and the server I'm using has banned energy manipulator(AN extremely nerfed version of EE2) for being unbalanced. It only works for vanilla items and everything in the mod is configurable. If you're too lazy to make it what you consider unbalanced I'm sorry but you're an extremely stupid person.
Because we're talking about configs, I'm going to mention immibis' sig.
I know that there's a good reason to say that defaults are important. They are. However, "90% of people will never see them". This is acceptable, you can't very well change something you never know about. But the 5% that doesn't change it and complains as a result are stupid. It also doesn't help that youtubers never cover configs, so everyone has mods installed and never configure them, then complain to the dev about something that is completely configurable.
Those people are who annoy me.

Or worse, the people who complain that it is configurable at all, claiming they either lack the self-control to not set things to the easiest settings or that "its not fair for everyone else to get to play an easier version".
Energy Manipulator is a great mod, shame it isn't updating to 1.7. While there is another mod that uses EM at it's core, it's got too much extra stuff I don't want.
I personally set it to be craftable from "end game" type materials, plus a tax rate to use and my own "balanced" EV values. As a result, it became a tool to help with big builds.
Oh, the gist of the part I was talking about was that you can't charge people for mods.
