Is having access to a "vanilla" nether like this normal? I would assume the nether should form some similar kind of skyblock? Otherwise this is hella OP

Judging by the minimap pictures I've seen, yes. If you think I'm not serious, try running a quarry in the nether.

NEI shows nothing to do with Hellfish, and after wandering around the nether for a while now i havent seen a single mob that might resemble one. Are you sure about them?

There is a reason why AS players aren't building their base in the nether.

They're like silverfish, but for the nether and hurt more

So you won't see them without mining the block that they're hiding in

Don't search for netherwart: you can get it from sieving soul sand. It's best stay out of there completely.

Don't see much of a need to go in the nether at all when ...

You can create a MFR tree farm, take the sludge from it and run it into a sludge boiler, from which you get netherrack, soul sand, heat sand and tainted soil. Combine the heat sand and tainted soil to get more soul sand. Sieveing soul sand so far has given me nether quartz, nether wart, ghast tears, various Natura stuff like saplings, berry bushes and glowshrooms.

Well, as long as you dont start mining in the nether you should be good, so finding nether wart is not really that difficult, the problem comes with the quartz.. thats when you are in serious shit :p

Yeah.. You can destroy nether wart without a problem (Or any tile entity to be precise) but there is a ton of hellfish around and if you mine one of them you are sooo screwed.. Also, try to avoid them, so they dont attack you.. If you defend, you are probably gonna have a bad time with its friends and if you run you may collide with something worse AKA lava. So yeah.. Avoid them and you'll be fine.. Or you can also pile up and hope no proyectile comes your way and drops you into a bunch of hellfish.

This should give you some idea:

Once you learn how things work in the Nether you can mine it with no issues. Seems more efficient from an energy perspective than running a laser drill.

Thaumcraft has a block or two that are helpful for dealing with hellfish. ;)

What you mean? Which blocks? (besides the wand of equivalent exchange :p)
