Immibis's Microblocks are terrible, I found the other ones to be not bad. Well, not nearly as bad as Powercraft. LXP, Tubestuff, and the transporting stuff mod all seem pretty nicely documented.

Yeah, I kept running across this mod when I was building a potential replacement pack for Direwolf20 for my Industrial LP. I couldn't find a cohesive guide to what the mod did, so I skipped it. This is my biggest gripe, if I'm going to use a mod, I need some kind of clear documentation. At this point, this mod fails that hurdle.

Kind of wish there was a better way to figure out what stuff does in game. Digging through 50 different wikis and mod spotlights for 50 different mods gets old, fast, and I miss stuff sometimes.

@KirinDave and all other supporters of the mod:

Please, you all say that this mod is great and all, but the OP for this mod (both its own forum and the MC one) have so very few description on what it does, a wiki nearly empty, and an outdated document, plus some videos.

In here, we see an answer to "waypoint sounds like REI minimap" by a simple "wrong".

So far, only whizzball1 gave a try at describing what is added, but it ended being a small wall of text that doesn't really explain anything. Might make sense for those that tried it, but it definitely didn't sell the mod at all to me.

From what I understand, the mod adds really a lot of stuff, cool enough to have two people defending it like that, but for those of us that want a quick description of what you can actually do, there is not much.

All I could gather was that there are logic gates, conveyor belts, laser, and other stuffs.

Maybe some of us are really demanding, this mod is too big to clearly and concisely describe, or someone needs to take some time to really make people want to try it out.
I mean, not with a video, because most spotlights are actually really bad at explaining a mod anyway.

I do love to try out mods, but I am already having trouble to fully play with all I have right now (ultimate plus some other mods added by hand), and sadly not enough time and/or motivation to check out every single mod that are pushed forward if they don't catch my attention.

Thank you! The lack of documentation just ruined this mod completely for me. The mod with the best documentation, by far, would be Applied Energeistics. It's wiki is amazing, and more importantly, finished.

Bu there's a difference between glancing at a wiki when you don't know how to do somethin and watching 10 minute long videos that goes through the entire thing. Everyone does spotlights, that's not special. And even if spotlights were still, this guy doesn't stop moving around, it's extremely frustrating.
PS: That's outdated.

Heaven forbid there be many storage options. It sucked how Xycraft ripped off tanks from Railcraft. right?
Did you know that vanilla chests are multiblocks? This isn't special. And we have more than enough storage through barrels and iron chests; you never said what made this new chest unique.

Care to explain a little further? You say waypoints, I think of Rei's Minimap. Sue me.

So wrong it's not even wrong: it is nonsense. You are saying nonsense.
I never said "nonsense", in fact, the word "nonsense" never came up in my post. You fail at the grammars.
You say "crystal worldgen", I think of the Mystcraft crystals.
Again, if you don't explain what makes it unique then I won't be able to think of it as unique.

Your literacy rivals that of a university professor. I have learnt much from your single-word answers.
You say "codable computers" and I think of computercraft. For the third time; if you use one-word descriptions of things, then it's hard to see how they are different from others. If this computer shot rainbow ponies I wouldn't know unless you told me...

MF had a hiatus before MFR got launched and many modmakers filled the gap.
There are far more original ways to move items; TC has golems, RP2 has pneumatics, BC has pipes, MFR has conveyor belts, RC has minecarts; even vanilla has water streams and primitive cart systems.

Xycraft stole the autocrafting table! Universal Electricity stole the project table (for that matter, why aren't you screaming Xycraft stole the Imprinter idea to make the fabricator)! If by "stole" you mean "wrote some code to do something obvious that existed in other mods before Buildcraft existed."

Except that the Xycraft fabricator is nothing like the Autocrafting table. And for the seemingly hundredth time, I know all of the differences between the Xycraft fabricator and the Autocrafter, whereas the descriptions for the Powercraft ones are "they are like this kewel thing from another mod".

I fail to see you putting any consideration or thought into what you're writing. It irritates me.
You answered my sentences with the word "Wrong". Your argument is invalid.

I am at work posting between analysis cycles on a hadoop cluster, nor do I play with powercraft enabled often. I do not owe you any sort of photographic evidence like this is a court case.

It's a perfectly good mod that represents a lot of hard work by its author and I don't like seeing that sort of work denigrated because it stands in (perceived) opposition to a local flavor. Especially when that work has been more consistent and transparently conducted than said local flavor. It's fine if you don't want to use it, but try not to spout the above outright false information just to reinforce your confirmation bias.

If you don't tell us what this mod does, and just list some words, then people are unable to see how great or original your mod is. Disregarding the fact that you ignored some of my arguments, I must point out that you can't say that Powercraft is " more consistent and transparently conducted than said local flavor " when said local flavour have wikis and websites; Powercraft is so far from transparent that it can probably stop X-rays.
I'm sure it is at least a half-decent mod; unfortunately I am unable to see this. The fact that you blatantly refuse to show us what the things in the mod do or even look like makes me suspicious.

For the (hopefully) last time.
If you don't show us / tell us / shove down our throats what the mod does / looks like / tastes like, then we can't differenciate it from the mods we all know and love.

@slay_mithos:
A little bit of research and ta da....

It's not very hard you know.

Sorry, did you really read what I posted?

A video, especially of a guy that starts with him saying a bunch of useless stuff ("forge is a downside" "download a bunch of zip files"...)
He clearly didn't prepare well what he would say, because there are a lot of words and phrases ("hum", "err", "I'll show you in one second") that don't make it easier to understand.

Add to this the fact that it takes more than a minute to actually say anything about the mod, and you obtain a video that is exactly as I dislike for spotlights.

Like I said, and others said too, we need an actual description that will present the mod to us, as well as a documentation up to date and complete.
You all emphasize on how big the mod is, and how much stuff it adds, and yet we don't even have a description for more than half of the blocks and items on the official wiki?

I am not saying that I would be good at selling a mod to others, but if you are going to make a thread dedicated to making people know about a mod (and suggest it in the mod suggestion thread), then you must be prepared to give us more than a 12 minutes videos, and outdated document, and an incomplete wiki.

At the very least, please do try to give us a description of what the mod actually does, that might be a good step to take, don't you think?

EDIT:
Couldn't resist...
"Like, there is a machine that is not implemented yet, that is like a miner" at 4:56.
Yeah, sure, that is great and useful information for us, right?
And why are nearly none of the mod spotlights using recipes from NEI instead of having to setup a world with boring signs and chests?
NEI also has the advantage to show you when there are interchangeable parts, the chest doesn't...

Maybe I am just too critical, maybe I just want everything to thrive for perfection, rather than being content with being average, sorry about that.

Sadly, no.

This video is nowhere near good enough to promote the mod, nor is it enough to make up for the complete lack of documentation.

All it does to me is make me think "Ok, they have a lot of things in the mod, but they didn't bother with presenting it or promoting it to the community. Why should I even bother downloading it, when the author clearly doesn't make any effort to make me want to?"

Seriously, even showing a cool build that heavily relies on the mod could make a lot of people want to check it out.

If you are thinking that I just want everything made for me, then so be it, I am just one of the people that think that presentation and first impression actually matters a lot.

If neither the author(s) nor the fans want to take the time to make a content that makes other people interested in the mod, then so be it, but don't go and say that it's our fault for not downloading and checking every single mod in existence.

The fact that you continue to ask for presentation instead of simply trying it for yourself argues against you here.
No matter whatever rationalizations are used.

But, their presentation or lack there of is perfect for trolling via condescention huh?

And, run out and try all mods?
Whoever said that?
However attractive a fallacy exageration may be you should refrain from it.

Firstly.
Perfection?
What's that?
I imagine there is a highly subjective definition to be found for that.
Anyrate.

You sir, completely missed my point.
My point was simple really, information can be found.
If you bother to try.
To be honest I did a quick YouTube video search, picked a fairly recent, and haven't watched it yet.
Don't think I will.
The mod sounds like a rehashed collection of other mod's capabilities..

But lambasting them for messing up is much more fun eh?

I never said "nonsense", in fact, the word "nonsense" never came up in my post. You fail at the grammars.
You say "crystal worldgen", I think of the Mystcraft crystals.

Really? There are two other mods in FTB that have crystals, and vanilla 1.5 does as well.

Did you know that vanilla chests are multiblocks? This isn't special. And we have more than enough storage through barrels and iron chests; you never said what made this new chest unique.

Go look.

Care to explain a little further? You say waypoints, I think of Rei's Minimap. Sue me.

1. It predates Rei's Minimap.
2. I am not your research department. When you're wrong, it's not my responsibility to walk you down a garden path. I do not care if you use Powercraft in the slightest. You are not worth that degree of intellectual and emotional investment to me.

I never said "nonsense", in fact, the word "nonsense" never came up in my post. You fail at the grammars.
You say "crystal worldgen", I think of the Mystcraft crystals.

Comparing the two is like saying that Xycraft Quartz ripped off mystcraft. It's that ridiculous.

Except that the Xycraft fabricator is nothing like the Autocrafting table.

Except that it is quite a bit like the autocrafting table.

And for the seemingly hundredth time, I know all of the differences between the Xycraft fabricator and the Autocrafter, whereas the descriptions for the Powercraft ones are "they are like this kewel thing from another mod".

Interesting coincidence. It's almost like we're using terms from mods that FTB uses in hopes that that will draw a recognizable parallel. It's also almost like this is a convenience and service to you, rather than a literal representation of origin of the ideas. Particularly since Powercraft predates nearly every mod you've mentioned.

You answered my sentences with the word "Wrong". Your argument is invalid.

Again, incorrect. The validity of my argument is independent from how well it convinces you. You are wrong about most of what you said. In a cute bit of irony, by saying, "You are wrong because you are mean and terse" it is you who have first committed Ad Hominem. This is delicious and I thank you for feeding my social conundrum dark passenger.

If you don't tell us what this mod does, and just list some words, then people are unable to see how great or original your mod is.

It is not my mod. There are tons of videos on the Powercraft Wiki for various features I do know about. For the ones that do not have videos, most of them are new enough that I haven't played with them yet. Holograms, for example. Nor do I feel particularly excited about textually tapdancing for someone's weird mod-protection agenda.

I'm sure it is at least a half-decent mod; unfortunately I am unable to see this. The fact that you blatantly refuse to show us what the things in the mod do or even look like makes me suspicious.

I do not care what you think or how you feel about the subject. I am only finishing this conversation simply as a matter of perfunctory politeness; a vestigial remnant of my catholic upbringing.

But the point is the wiki should have been there ages ago. Nothing wrong with what you're doing, you're actually helping this mod that could very well die. *still doesn't know worldgen*

Ok, that's it...

You guys make it seems like you want to advertise the mod, but when we ask for information, you just say "go find it yourselves"?

At least whizzball1 is trying to fill the gap of the missing information, while the other two are trying to shut down any inquiries about what the mod actually does.

Well, sorry, I don't have enough time on my hand to search for information on any single mod that is stated in here and other forums, so excuse me for only selecting mods that actually states what they do.

This is only a bad publicity for the mod, and if I understand correctly, the mod is good enough for us to really enjoy it, but these three pages didn't give me any single reason to download the mod, fiddle with the config for the IDs, and try it out.
On the other hand, if your aim was to completely discredit the mod, then great job, you succeeded in that by responding defensively rather than explaining where we were wrong and what we could have if we took the time to install it.

I feel I need to find the report button for what this thread has become... Hmm.

All I see now are attacks against each-other and unnecessary vocabulary causing further problems.

As for being on topic, I cannot vote as of yet. I am currently gathering information to develop a opinion.

What has been provided from links and descriptions and my own searches is not, compared to other mod threads/wikis/spotlights, very much.

Some people will install things without asking for more information. Other people want to know more about the content of what it is they are installing. By having more information, you cover both sets of "customers".

Presentation is important too. The better the presentation of information is, the greater acceptance it will receive and you will see better formulated opinions.

Let's hope we can work together towards a better understanding. Liking each-other is not a requirement to get a job done if one can stay professional.
