I just found a quote by the mod author saying he got all of his sprites from google image search and didn't make any himself. So yeah I pretty much have all the proof I need.No-one, you haven't got any proof.
And besides, how do you know they are "ripped" from a game, permission may have been granted to use them.
What Eya said...For issues like this, take it to the parties in question.
And then what? Just leave it if they decide to do nothing? For issues like this, take it to the parties in question.
Hard proof as to what? I have proof that they're taken from another game and that they're not royalty free. Not even that is proof. Not all the images found by Google are copyrighted. A lot of images that are found are, what is known as, royalty free. So unless you have hard proof to the specific images themselves, I doubt you have a leg to stand on.
And then what? Just leave it if they decide to do nothing?
While this is totally and utterly true, it can get you in shit if Beth catches wind and you don't either have permission or it's open source.Leave it alone. I used to mod for Morrowind and borrowing textures from games made things go a lot faster than if I had done everything from scratch.
This makes sense... for Minecraft. Leave this bubble, and it's a legal issue that is serious. Or stay, and see how serious it can be. But then again, Minecraft is a odd game. Just don't think Mojang will turn a blind eye if they catch wind of stolen assets from other games. If you want to be a concerned citizen then let the original games developers know, you will be called a whiny #$%^and deservedly so tho... Has nothing to do with you and smacks of an issue you have with the modder for whatever reason. But go right ahead and cause trouble for someone who has given their work to you to enjoy for FREE just because they've borrowed a texture.
I'm kinda appalled at the attitudes coming up here, if it's a potential legal issue, it's a legal issue regardless of whether or not it's a free game using the stolen content. I absolutely hate the misinformation that art is easy and it doesn't matter because it's just a picture. That picture took time and effort to do, and the original artist should be credited for their work and/or paid for it as well unless they have explicitly stated that it's royalty free.
If the modder put so much effort into the mod, then they should have gone the little bit more to get legal assets for something that they're wanting to distribute.
I do agree with the statements saying take it to the original author of the artwork and leave it in their hands
