Hi.

Before I go into detail can we please be constructive and avoid going into off topic sniping etc. I am looking for genuine advise based on experience and technical knowledge.

So i have just purchased the new IMAC 5K retina display.
3.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor
24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2048 MB GPU

What I have found is running DIREWOLF20 1.6 with 128x sphere textures, fancy graphics, far render. (not tried optifine yet) is fine getting around 60 FPS (about 120 without t/pack). BUT I'm assuming due to the high res display I'm having to allocate 8GB RAM in the launcher or I will get the minecraft out of memory issue. The machine will also run an ultra Sildurs shaders pack on far render at about 15 FPS.

My issue is I cannot record (screen) any decent quality. Now I'm assuming (and correct me if I'm wrong) that this is due to having far render 128x textures etc but also the processor. though clocked the I5 will goto 3.9 GHz I would assume multitasking would require an I7.

I could take the machine bak and get the 4.0GHz Quadcore I7 boost to 4.4GHz and AMD Radeon R9 M295x 4GB GDDR5 GPU for an additional £400.

Now I'm not anti pro etc or interested in the MAC V PC battle. Everyone is entitled to have their preferences and we should all simply respect that. Personally i prefer MAC due to the O/S and consistent performance where experience with PC systems is performance is reduced after time due to amount of threads running for the O/S (non tech minded view).

BUT am wondering if the price tag of £2400 for what I'm considering, what kind of system could I get custom built for that ?

So thoughts please.

Custom system for that amount of money!

Now take into account I know nothing about building computers but my brother built a rather nice gaming pc for about 500 bucks. He gets upwards of 100 fps on monster with a 128 texture pack. Course he got most of the parts on black Friday and cyber Monday but still you could get a very nice computer for that amount of money if you built it yourself.

But if you want actual knowledgeable input might I suggest @Wagon153?

Is there anyone that could look at
AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB

I'm really not up there on spec analysis and am wondering how good a gpu this is in comparison to others

Here's a description of your video card with performance benchmarks, although because of limited use they are incomplete tests... It appears that the iMAC 5K is the first device to use this card:

http://www.game-debate.com/news/?ne... Leaked For AMDs Mobility Radeon R9 M295X GPU

The article does suggest that the GPU works best with an i7, although as an AMD CPU user I wouldn't know... :D

As far as recording capability goes I cannot help there because I'm not familiar with the software involved.

Ok. Next question. Let's be rhetorical and say what specs I would need to run mod pack hd textures and shaders pack and still screen record at least 40fps

Try to disable vsync in the Video driver settings. With amd graphics i have lower fps if i have vsync on.

Simply Im assuming i can play FTB modpackt with 128x textures AND screen record (fraps etc) while still getting a good quality FPS. How would performance be with shaders also ?

First thing is, That list looks cool. Second think try an Intel i7 4770k Not the extreme edition and i believe it is LGA1150, And the graphics cad is overkill for minecraft but if your playing with awesome shaders then its good.

I made a mistake, the card is a bit overkill. But if you use shaders, p,ay other games, ore do heavy renderring it is amazing.
