After running some tests we have found that when a player dies they are not losing their XP.

We have recently installed forgeessentials.. does anyone know of a setting that may be causing this?

A bit off-topic but this constantly baffles me, why does havin XP make it easier and what do people use it for? I don't think I have used personal XP in the last 2 worlds. Am I missing a trick?

XP is used for enchanting. It's often difficult to reach 30 levels, which is the maximum needed for the highest level enchants. XP is also used in anvils for renaming/repairing/enchanting items.

Yea, I know what XP is used for vanilla, but with all the mods that make random enchants redundant I can't believe people still do it.

When you have Tinkers Construct weapons/tools/armor, DartCraft's generally OP enchanting system, everything in MPS or the Gravisuite, Thaumcraft's gadgets (and Thaumic Tinker tools), Extra Utilities Tools, MFR's Monster Essence and Auto-Enchating Table and Xeno's Reliquary, I can't think of any time I would need XP.

There is always a quicker/easier/more efficient/more interesting way of achieving the results that a random enchant would give you. Again this is just my opinion, but one I am confused more people don't share.

Yeah, despite that EXP is, in vanilla, useful, in Modded Minecraft, it takes the back seat. Unless you have a mod which lets you make it useful in some way. For example, say you have immibis's Liquid XP installed. That could make it useful(but it does make saving it for later easier as well). Or, maybe you use Ars Magicka. Leveling up your mage level takes levels equal to how many levels you currently have. And you can have up to 50 levels.
Or, say, you have Enchanting Plus installed/enabled. Enchanting a suit of armor to do what you want is MUCH easier, but still consumes XP.

I'm honestly thinking of installing Liquid EXP again and seeing if you can pump EXP into a Magic Converter to "easily" output power, or if this requires one to be smart and store it somehow first. Hopefully the former, though that still doesn't mean I won't be making a max size RC Iron Tank for keeping spare EXP in. Depending on how things go, I might even upgrade it to Steel.

The one very useful use for XP would be its usage in a team-PvP orientated server. Constantly churning out chanting books, etc. and enchanting gear to replace gear lost in the battles.

Have a team dedicated to running an MFR exp farm + liquid exp system to give their PvP players exp to put enchantments on things, etc. Requires a lot of organization.
