I run FTB Ultimate on my server. Is it possible that I can save everyones items some how and gen. a new seed and have them say in some sort a virtual chest?

You can (I think) save your world, create your new world, make a mystcraft age in new world and then save your old world data into the mystcraft age folder. Then you should be able to enter there to get the items.

You should be able to stock up your inventory (maybe expand it with some Canvas Bags or Enderpouches) and copy your PlayerName.dat file across to the new game save directory. Not sure how you'd transfer your Thaumcraft research, if that's an issue.

Thaumcraft research is currently stored in PlayerName.dat (ForgeData/PlayerPersisted/TCResearch in NBT file), it was previously stored in research.dat.

This is a far better idea than mine =)

...although your Enderchest contents are probably in some other file.... and I've just tested this technique and it doesn't work. My PhilHibbs.dat file seems to get recreated. Not sure where from.

1.) Fill up inventory with items. Don't use bags, just put everything directly in your hotbar and inventory, until it is full. Equip armor as well.
2.) Set NEI to cheat mode.
3.) Save to an unoccupied inventory profile slot.
4.) Empty out inventory.
5.) Fill it again with other stuff.
6.) GOTO 3.)

You have (IIRC) seven inventory profile save slots. Meaning you can preserve seven full inventories in this way.

Then start a new world. Now you just load the first inventory profile, then store all the items in a chest. Load the second profile, store all the items... and so on.

Don't forget to turn cheat mode off afterwards!

This is a multiplayer, survival server. Not many players atm, but enough to make it difficult. I would need to instruct everyone to use bags. Did you find it wont work with bags? Or just ender-containers?

craft 36 canvas bags per person (36 sticks and stacks of string) fill them up with shit, place them in your inventory, copy the players folder from the savefile to the new savefile ???? profit!

Doesn't work. I don't know why but when I logged in to the new world, it overwrote the dat file with an empty inventory.

Yes and yes.

maybe the canvas bags data is stored somewhere else, try using forestry bags? or only your inventory, I'm 100% sure that works because I did it to bring my thaumcraft stuff from my thaumcraft-only world to my FTB world.

It's the entire inventory including armour, nothing is transferred across, and the entire copied PhilHibbs.dat file gets overwritten with an empty inventory (or an inventory containing whatever the Steve in the new world had in his inventory). In other words, the PhilHibbs.dat file isn't being used, it's being overwritten with a re-created file from the data in the real place where the actual inventory contents are read from when the new world is loaded. I don't know where that place is.

Maybe it has something to do with the location the person logged out at? Their coordinates might be deemed invalid if the chunks haven't been loaded in the new world yet. (I'm not entirely sure, just guessing)

Seems unlikely that the game would implement logic such as, "If the co-ords in the dat file are valid then use the .dat file, otherwise re-create a new dat file from data stored somewhere else". Anyway, I think the NEI "save inventory" mechanism is a lot better.
