Is anyone else viewing the forums a dozen or more times a day hoping to see the new launcher/packs? I believe DW20 said it'd be a "few weeks" about a week ago on one of his videos. I haven't seriously played Minecraft since 1.4.7 and am really looking forward to starting a new world.

I was hoping to mess around in the Starbound beta, but I fear it will release around the same time as the new packs based on their recent news post.

So who else is excited? What are you doing to pass the time?

I'm using MultiMC for my 1.6.4 after I found that trying to keep different modlists for different servers was nearly impossible with the vanilla launcher. It works like a charm, and even installed forge for me. Also, (I think it's NEI) I'm getting a file in my folder that is a datadump of block and item ID mappings; it's pretty handy.

It's just too hard to fix issues and conflicts for most people. If you use a custom premade pack, then there's no premade texture packs as well, so you have to go find and combine them and hope for the best. I'm so use to 128x Sphax textures at this point that it's hard to play without them. Even after everything is "working", it's most likely still not going to be as stable as a pack launched and tested by thousands of people.

I've always just found it safer to wait for the official packs.

You may come across a world-breaking bug after investing lots of time.

I have too much free time
I do not use texturpacks usually, unless it is faithful(which I have on Ultimate)

well, I know it's quite hard to put together a modpack, but I just put one together for myself and I tried to keep my modlist small so I wouldn't have to worry about many conflicts and such.

To be honest I'm not really excited at all, there alot of highly questionable design choices in 1.6.4 from BC, Railcraft, IC2 and Forestry that I don't care for at all. Thermal Expansion which I consider to be the most important mod in FTB is changing some for the better and some not and isn't currently availible yet anyways. Overall I'd rather stay at 1.5 at this point, really the only thing I've seen that I'd even use that's 1.6 only is the Drums from ExtraUtilities.

I am in the same boat- checking many times a day :D

I was hoping that Slowpoke would make an announcement at Minecon, but no such luck!

My question is voiced in a neutral tone. What changes have you not like in the mods you mentioned?

Probably the nerfs to the liquid fuel values.
And IC2 improved their machine quite a bit, plus even added a couple new one. But they are going GregTech now with their recipes (all with plates and tools) and their new energy transport feels clunky.

Gregtech recipes? Nah, they just removed refined iron, as many other mods use iron to smelt into steel or whatever. It's about the same, but with iron plates instead of refined iron.

Although, I don't know if I'll be able to play a Ultimate-like pack for a while without worrying about ID conflicts...

I'm using 96 mods in my custom 1.6.4 pack. I have no doubt you can create a conflict-free Ultimate-like modpack.

As for GT-style IC2, I agree. But, it's definitely GT-Lite and not full-on GT. The GT-esque bits are the hammer, tin snips, and the Metal Forming machine. They are only an early-game speedbump. After you have a couple of Metal Forming machines (plate mode and extruding mode) plugged into an AE system, it's not longer a speedbump. But, yeah, until then, they are a pain/tax/impediment/tedious step.

The upgrades to IC2 are the looks (machines look better), another tier of energy storage, a couple of new processing machines that allow for better (albeit longer) ore tripling, and some nuclear-related stuff like RTG. No major changes, though. More of a mild refresh than an overhaul.

Yep, just iron plates. And tin plates. And copper plates. And gold plates. And for a number of recipes you have to run the plates again through the metal former to get the machine thingies. That is, of course, if you remembered to change it back from the wire cutting mode, that use used before. Or you just wasted the materials.

Without AEs autocrafting (or the XACT crafting table before that) it takes now forever to get something done. But on the bright side, now I know the recipes for all the transformer upgrades in my sleep. Gotta "love" the new energy system. :)

Yeah, once I resigned myself to not messing with the 'mode' button, I confused myself less often. 1 machine set to 'hammer' mode for plates and 1 set to 'wire' mode for extruding. Before AE, I slapped on a hopper on top and 1 below.

Also, figuring out the Ejector Upgrade was luck. I had happened to watch the DW20 FC2 video where he shows the Ejector Upgrade and holding the upgrade while shift+clicking on any surface in the direction you want the ejected items to go. Makes sense after you do it, but not intuitive before you do it.

Without that, I would have been lost or at least wasted a lot of in-game time and eventually found the answer in the IC2 forums.

But, now with ME Interfaces, ME Precision Export Buses, and full upgrades, the IC2 machines blaze through processing tasks and burn EU like crazy. The only auto-gathering I have are bees, so I have relatively low-volume requirements. The speed is mainly for AE crafting on-demand.

The Ender IO machines are very nice and a nice stand-in and indeed upgrade to the TE basic machines like the Powered Furnace, Pulverizer, and Smelter, sort of. I wished the octadic capacitors stacked, though. With 1 of those, they are faster than TE machines, but not by much.
