Multiple modpacks crashing on startup

  • Tech Support section is for getting help with FTB related problems. If there's a repeatable issue that can be labeled as a bug, then please use the issue tracker for the pack or the app at GitHub issue trackers - If there's no repository for a pack that means that the pack is old and/or will not be updated. Bugs for older packs will not be fixed, unless they are critical.

This has been happening for a long time now; there are just periods of time when I can't get a single modpack on FTB to work. There are also times when, after I give up and stop trying for a few weeks, that I'm able to play for a day, maybe two if I'm lucky. The pack I'm playing now is Space Astronomy. I played for ~6 hours the other day and haven't been able to get into my world again since. Every time, the launcher brings up the main menu, I try to load my world, it starts loading, and then it crashes. Sometimes I get to see the world and walk around for a second or two. I've looked through multiple forums and tech support FAQs and nothing has helped.

I have an AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor and a GeForce GTX 960 graphics card with 8 gigs of RAM, 64-bit Windows (and 64-bit Java), and everything is updated including Java, video drivers, modpacks, etc. I've included the latest crash report, but I'm new so it may not show up right away (I got fed up and made an account to see if I could get some help; I'm at my wits end). If it's relevant, I keep FTB and all of its files on my external hard drive as my C: drive is too small. I would seriously be grateful to anyone who could decode the crash report and tell me what I need to do!

Edit: I tried editing my post by adding a "7" after "64-bit Windows" in case having Windows 7 is important info but apparently that's spam related and I wasn't allowed to post it. Added it here instead.

Yea, it doesn't like it when you try and edit a post that has been through the moderation queue.

Yeah, I figured as much. It's fine, I just wanted to add as much info as I could; like I said, I'm new here and I'm not incredibly tech savvy so I'm not sure what info would be helpful

Found this, it's not helpful, but funny.
XX:HeapDumpPath=MojangTricksIntelDriversForPerformance_javaw.exe_minecraft.exe.heapdump -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

Can you try to find a modpack crash log? This is more of a java crash.
Which makes me want to ask you to uninstall all versions of java on your machine and reinstall the latest version, just in case.

This problem is a Java crash. The java version itself is good. The memory reserved is good, but still Java crashes.
I think it must be something hardware or driver related then?

Do you have any antivirus software on that machine?

Did you start the launcher at any time with administrative rights? (don't do that if you haven't and stop doing it if you did)

On launcher, click "options" tab, then click "advanced java options" and in the additional java parameters field write "-Duser.language=en -Duser.country=US" and then try launching a modpack

If your computer is using a language with certain odd symbols, Java won't handle it. The additional parameters I wrote above will set the language to English

Java can also crash from something ingame related. It's not necessarily (like in this case it most likely isn't) hardware or driver related

Just tried this and it seemed to do the trick! It starts up with no problem now. Thanks everyone for your help!!

Well I say that, now we're back to crashing. Tried the new mod update, played for a bit then crashed, went back to the old version, crashed on startup. Oh well, back to troubleshooting for me.

I could if you could tell me where to find them, but I seemed to have fixed it somehow. I tried to restore the old modpack version, which crashed, then went back to the newest one, and now it works again. I don't understand it, myself.
