I haven't seen any threads about this but thought there might be some interest...

I just dual-booted to my Win10 partition to get the latest updates and while I was there I logged onto Mojang and ran the new Vanilla MC ver. 1.8.2 with no problems. I couldn't get MC to run on the Hyper-V virtual machine I used for the first Tech. preview back in October... Who knows where the issue was back then? I didn't investigate.

Today I used the new loader, which automatically loads a runtime Java 1.8.0_25 each time you want to play, so I didn't have to install Java just yet.

Vanilla seems to run even faster on Win10 than it does on Win8.1 - I'll be trying to install Infinity while I listen to the BBall game tomorrow night to get a better idea for speed comparison.

I've been running my computer on the tech preview for like 3 months now with very minimal bugs, it's fantastic. I've built, downloaded, played modpacks without a hitch. :)

That's good to know. I've been debating about installing 10 on my main pc.

DON'T install Win10 TP on your main PC unless you repartition and make a dual-boot system! Win10 TP is still being developed and, while I'm sure you use products that are constantly changing (you play Minecraft, right? :D) Win10TP usually requires a complete wipe with every new major version released and they seem like they will be coming monthly now.

Relax dude. I'm in the biz and know the risks. Went through the Win8 DP/CP ride on my production machine. Same s**t, different day.

I'm a Windows 7 user and have been since the Tech Preview for it (I was on Vista at the time so anything was better). I couldn't stand Windows 8 and have seriously tried to switch to it - but I really couldn't. I decided the other day (after some crashes, I though I should reformat) that I'd go for Windows 10 for a bit - see if it's any good and more importantly, to see if I could live with it.

I'm impressed by a few things, but one major issue I have is that network drives don't show up in other applications like a local drive. That's something very different from Windows 7 and it's doing my head in. I don't remember that issue with 8.

Other than that, so far, Windows 10 is "meh" for me.

Hmmm, they must have changed the functionality of the legacy explorer to exclude network drives. I'm sure someone will bring that up and ask for it to be fixed. Yea, the real value w/ 8.1 on my main pc was that I also had 8/8.1 on my Surfaces so ... it was kind of seemless moving from one device to the other.

That makes sense. I've never seen the use of tablets personally. I have a desktop for when I'm at home and a phone for when I'm mobile. I see the need for a laptop, but I can't get what I need from one so I'll have to stick with a significantly more powerful desktop. As for tablets, they're just big phones - normally without the phone part.

The start menu in Windows 10 doesn't really work the way that pre-Windows 8 users are used to and seems kinda useless. The only useful thing in it is the search bar, but it's not great.

The main driver for me was OneNote. I used to keep a lot of notebooks around and I dabbled with recordable pens/paper/scanning/etc. OneNote on a Surface Pro is amazing. I could have gone with a stylus/laptop combo but the Surface was just the better all around device ... that matched 'my' needs.

If you didn't know, the new Office Apps (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) are in the windows store for Tech Preview, and will also be available for IOS and Android, for free. I think you can get the Tech Previews from the appropriate app stores, but you might want to wait a bit until they are officially released
