It's back! MineChem version 2, Pre-Release 1 is now available for download.
Add chemistry to your minecraft world. Craft machines that decompose minecraft items into elements
and molecules. Use the microscope to discover new molecular structures. Operate the Chemical Synthesis Machine to turn elements back into items. Turn your coal, sugar or even spider eyes into diamonds!

Minechem 2 is designed to work alongside Buildcraft so you can build automated chemical factories. Minechem comes preconfigured to work with Forge's ore dictionary.

Of course, I give permission for this mod (v2+) to be on any FTB mod pack.

Please head to the thread on Minecraft Forums for more information:

Gave a quick look at the teaser. Looks to have a ton of compounds! I'm wary of the "turn one item into another without loss" aspect though. Equivalent Exchange showed over and over again that it is completely game-breaking.

Also gave a look at the recipe list in the thread. ...are you seriously giving 32 bottles for 3 glass panes (roughly one piece of glass)?! o_O

Omicron: Not true. Where EE2 broke was collectors. Getting energy that can be turned into matter from the sun is what broke it, not turning iron into diamonds and back. Because, dammit, I want to turn iron into dirt, and I will turn my iron into dirt!

WOW!!!! This Looks SO COOL I love the GUI's!!!! One Question will you have an API for giving mod items chemicals? Like Thaumcrafts API for aspects??

After a quick play test with this, you'll go through stacks of bottles just for some simple chemical exchanges. 1 bottle is needed for each chemcal component.
2 stacks of coal give 4 stacks of bottles of chemicals which could get you 1 diamond. You do get the bottles back, though.
I can see some people make intricate routing systems to make automatic crafters.

Nobody said chemistry was cheap!

I personally dislike that recipe because it makes the original glass one obsolete.

If he insists, I would rather 3 glass blocks = 24 bottles.

Amazing blocks and animation. Also, after watching the video, I love the idea of a techie brewing system.

Thanks for the feedback, I was debating whether to pre-release at such an early stage and it has definitely been worth it. Future updates will be moving away from using vanilla glass bottles and using my own test tube bottles, and a lot of balance changes (I.e. diminishing returns). I do have an API here. Plus there's plenty of new features in the pipeline; fusion reactors, holograms, fission reactor, chemists book, blank periodic table you have to fill in, chemical vats, atomic clocks and hopefully more. But my highest priority right now is getting it to be a great automation toy, and that includes buildcraft gate triggers, redstone control and also to play nicely with redpower.

New Idea: The Chemist's Codex

Any chemist's right-hand man, this book possesses a blank periodic table (like you had mentioned). It gives reference to elements that you must learn, and must master. They give recipes and brief descriptions about the elements on the table, and the table grows as progress of how far you have ventured into Minechem's depths.
This book is akin to Thaumcraft 3's Thaumonomicon, in that they both give crucial information to the game and deserve a spot on any player's hotbar.

People I would go to for help:

Azanor, to learn mechanics of making such a tool.
NEI Experts (mistaqur?), to learn about shortcuts and recipes being implemented.
Me! ^_^ I can certainly help texture, do layouts, GUIs, etc... or help with anything, although I know you never asked for help, so feel free to ignore me. :D

Again, just an idea. Love the mod.

I have this mod added to my pack and I'm currently using it, I recommend it. One of my goals is to get an automated system going in my SSP world ASAP :D Great mod and great work, keep it up!

I've already got an idea of how the Chemist's Journal will work. Doubt I'll have it looking like an acheivements page.

Excellent :)
It looks like I had a similar idea to what you had planned, so that's cool.
Excited to see it!

Looks impressive, and very easy to use/understand just by watching the spotlight. Love the detail on the blocks, and I could imagine the crazy builds with these.

Only bit of automation that I can't see is producing an end product. Since the crafting area of the CST works with patterns, pumping in items wouldn't put the items into the correct patterns.

I would suggest being able to store the recipe on a chip (using a new machine), that then goes into a new machine that is an upgrade to the CST. This has an input where it takes in all raw elements or mixtures. From that, it will then produce whatever is on the chip and have 3 outputs. First for the empty bottles/testtubes, Second for unused material, Third for the final product.

Why though are you moving into the realms of fusion reactors, etc. Doesn't seem chemistry to me. I might be missing something.

Also, don't know if it's possible, but how about secret recipes that produce Spawn Eggs? Having a system that allows the player to gain spawn eggs in a legit way would be amazing. The Microscope shouldn't accept Spawn Eggs so you can't just go creative and learn the recipe, and then let everyone know immediately. Sure, in time people will unlock the secrets and spread the word, but that's part of the challenge.

The concept is amazing I had this on my server for less then 24 hours to only find out everyone had endgame materials for IC2 and Gregtech due to macerating bone into bonemeal, blazerods as well. I would suggest anyone interested in this mod to wait until the balance issues get fixed unless you don't care about your economy and want your players to reach engame in less then a day.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.

Half true, collectors were very slow and insanely expensive for what they did. Things like blaze maceration and darkrooms fully broke it.

Reading this make me smile. I loved this mod since I saw it being spotlighted by Piedude. Keep up the good word as I can't wait to see a fully up and running chemistry mod.

HOLOGRAMS?!! All that stuff sounds awesome, but seriously, did you just say HOLOGRAMS? Oh happy, happy day!
