Ok everyone! I am looking into building a new computer and I am almost 100% positive this would work awesomely but wanted to run it by everyone.

I am doing a build with:

Intel Core i5-4460
MSI H97 PC Mate (MOBO)
Sapphire Radeon R9 280 GPU
and 8GB Ram

I was wanting to doubly check if this would run FTB Packs (especially DireWolf20 1.7.10 pack) with the highest Spax Texture packs available for it on full graphics settings? I am pretty sure it will but double checking myself.

Thanks!

Can you run Minecraft? Yes.
Can you run modded Minecraft? Yes
With best graphics? Most likely
512x sphax? Maybe... I wouldn't be able to say for sure, seeing as apart from the graphics card and motherboard, your specs seem pretty much similar to mine, and I can barely get 60+ fps on packs like DW20, with 64x Sphax.

Thanks, I knew I'd be able to run it.. especially since my crappy laptop can for the most part..lol.. but at least if I can do 64 Sphax it wouldn't be too bad and it isn't like I plan on doing any broadcasting on it.

Barely ;) It's not like I see a strong 60fps ever :p
This is also with Fastcraft, ofc :p
I have no idea how people are playing without fastcraft
1.6=100+ fps
1.7 without fastcraft=0 to 20 or something, for the most part unplayable
1.7 with fastcraf=40 to 70
1.8 20 to 300 depending on a lot of things and with mods that make minecraft a lot nicer looking, need some better tests.
It might be me doing something wrong of course but I have no idea what

1.8 is probably better... but you see, I like my mods, and I can't play what would essentially be enhanced vanilla... so the laggier version it is, at least for a while :p
But I agree, I was getting ~90FPS average in 1.6 and when I went to test 1.8, I was getting ~200+

Doesn't Direwolf20 1.7.10 come with Fastcraft?
I believe so

Interestingly, I just game across this on the FTB pages: http://ftb.gamepedia.com/Fastcraft

Specifically this line:
However, like all mods intended to improve performance (such as Optifine and FPS Plus+), it does have the possibility of decreasing performance. For this reason, as well as legal reasons involving the license of Fastcraft, it is not enabled by default in any FTB modpacks.

And the modpack on the launcher says as follows:

This pack contains Fastcraft, by Player. Fastcraft enhances Minecraft with increased performance. Bug reports being made directly to Mod Authors should state Fastcraft is enabled.

So my question is, Fastcraft is included yes, and I can see it on the mods folder, but is it enabled? Doesn't state that clearly.

You'll need a LOT more RAM to run Sphax at x512, the recommended is 16GB+ if you plan to run it on Windows.
