I did move to XyCraft tanks (just to test them out) and they're incredibly cheap compared to RC tanks. I really don't like the way he basically one-upped another mod author by copying something and then making it loads cheaper.

I like both. I prefer smaller footprints for my tanks and railcraft tanks offer more storage in a smaller space because they include the walls in the calculation. 1.5 version of railcraft has steel railcraft tanks that double the volume to 32 buckets per block so its going to be 3x3x? steel tanks for me. If i wanted really big tanks though I'd use the xycraft ones, plus I like the liquid detector block.

Make your XyTanks out of Railcraft iron tank walls! There. Problem solved :D
Does that even work> I don't think it does.

Also, RC tanks have the cool factor going for them, as well as holding more in smaller sizes. Personally I'm a xytank guy though.

It could work! I haven't tried it. Would be funny if you could, though.

Sadly it doesn't.. But i quite liked the look, so I built xycraft tanks partially out of iron blocks to offset their cheapness. Feels right for me to do that, and it looks pretty cool too.

Thats exactly my point with the tanks.

Edit: The only thing I like about the tanks is the possibility to build the footprints like you want, not only 3x3, 4x4 and so on.

mmm.. that's exactly why I used them, because rectangles fitted into my designs so much better than squares.
I think just offset the cost by using an expensive material, build one out of diamond blocks if you wish :p

I agree. I can't wait to see what the more mature Xycraft involves!

As for the textures - I agree that they don't fit into the typical Minecraft style. But I'd say that's a good thing! If you ask me, Minecraft should lend itself to all sorts of building/decorating styles. Xycraft is pushing for an expansion of what's possible. It may doing so in a somewhat whacky way, but at least it's doing it!

A good, non-idiotic human here!

Sure, but it was nice if the author wasn't such a huge fan of glowy stuff. It's SO damn ugly!

I like the glowy things and I bet it thinks you're ugly too.

Like ever its a matter of opinions

The only thing I consider useful is the fabricator, this thing is awesome. Everything else is just astetic and doesnt please me. XyCraft Soil is producing lags if you are working with huge amounts, XyCraft Tanks are stolen from railcraft and made cheaper in my eyes so I wont use em.

"Stolen" So anything ever in another mod is stolen? I SUPPOSE MPS IS STOLEN FROM EE2 AND IC2? As it states thats where she drew inspiration from?

So the iron chest mod stole? So Mojang stole? Your logic and you are bad and should feel bad.

I dont know why you have hard times accepting that people have different opinions. There is really no need to flame everyone who expresses an opinion you dont share.
I mean this thread is about bases, so its normal that people will talk about styles and with it aswell about textures.

The discussion about the irontanks and maybe more is just a bit offtopic but there is more than enough threads which prove the point.

Hail, peacemaker senderfn.

I wonder though, do you guys use any texture packs to offset some of the bad textures? Xycraft is already 32x.

I use Sphax for the most part, but it has been tough finding the xycraft textures for it. Right now some of the blocks are textured but some of the newer ones (fabricator, valve) still have the default texture from the mod.

All of these posts make my base feel insignificant, may re-post a link to an album to get some feedback, but i haven't been playing much FTB lately, damn it Neverwinter and LoL....

Here's a flyover and a few close ups of my current base. Each building has a function (ultimate in multiblock kinda...), so not efficient on the amount of resources to carry power/items, but nicer then a big machine room.

DW20 pack, replaced EXBL with BoP. Using Misa texture pack for vanilla, Battered Old Stuff, T42, John Smith for mods, and my own cobbled together efforts for everything else.
