I've not got any useful ideas unfortunately Wuffle, but I did want to say I think your base is looking nice so far! Clean lines, and I like the look of the stained glass and fan blocks that you've used!
Thankyou
I'm expanding it soon.

Here is my base on a custom mod pack based on FTB Revelations. There were a lot of ideas "borrowed" from this thread, so I wanted to share.

Thanks!Very nice work! I really like what you’ve done there
They work great. I went searching to find them very early game and was rewarded well.Interesting, I was informed the 2x2 trees didn't work. Guess that was wrong.
Huh, weird to see 1.7.10 again after not playing it for agesApologies for theimage qualityutter lack of images. The base has undergone some further changes since these were taken, but I thought I'd show you what I've done so far.

Other bit I haven't decided what to do with yet:
Its a relatively new 1.7.10 pack, too - I'm really enjoying it. I've not been able to do a lot of 1.10+ stuff as my computer seems to really chug. My old one couldn't run anything past 1.7.10 at all, and wouldn't have been able to play this. Everything I watch is 1.12 these days, so its definitely a little odd.Huh, weird to see 1.7.10 again after not playing it for ages
It's a real common issue with the latest versions of Minecraft, but then every Minecraft update has been more demanding than the previous version. Wish they would do an update that doesn't focus on content but on performance. Its a relatively new 1.7.10 pack, too - I'm really enjoying it. Honestly being forced to use less mods, due to ram concerns, I enjoy it more than using 20 mods that do the same thing. It makes the game less overwhelming. I saw Reika's stuff updated recently. I might make a 1.7.10 world going when my server goes down. And make people stop buying more powerful computers? Ha.
Well, about 1.13 :It's a real common issue with the latest versions of Minecraft, but then every Minecraft update has been more demanding than the previous version. Wish they would do an update that doesn't focus on content but on performance.
And they are currently porting some optimizations from Bedrock Edition. Finally, they revamp the Notch's work! This update was originally intended to be released as two separate updates with 1.13, originally named Technically Updated, having the technical changes and 1.14, originally named Update Aquatic, having all the ocean features.[
