Hello,
I would've posted this in the "Support" section, had it not been for the fact that I have "insufficient privileges".
Anyway, about a week back, I decided to update my Java, because my copy of FTL: Faster Than Light wasn't running properly when I attempted to install mods. Now, approximately one week later, I launched the FTB launcher (via Steam). An error message popped up saying something along the lines of "Oh noes! Your Java is outdated!", which makes no sense because I updated it only a week ago. The error message states that I require JRE 1.6.0, I think I updated to version 7 update something, but that makes no sense.
Can someone please tell me what is going on and how I can fix it?

I had this problem on my old MAC which comes standard with java 7, the problem is you are running java 7 when something requires java 6. I think this problem came up because of modders using deprecated methods that were dropped from java 6 to java 7. So in short install java 6.

If this was helpful please like!

FTB is not on steam if I have any sense to myself...
Have you ever pressed the "add a game" button? Much exploration awaits for you beyond that button...

I will try that right away!

Weird, when I launched FTB with Java7 it crashed, but when I re-installed Java6 FTB gave me a warning that Java6 was detected and I should use Java7...

they fixed this kinda...you must download java's version instead of the OSX version. I don't think they dropped methods from 6 to 7 though

Erm... I have a computer that runs on Windows 7 because, no need to be rude, but Mac is a bit rubbish, especially for this kind of stuff. I don't want to start a PC war, I'm just telling the truth.
I also can't run vanilla Minecraft. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
**UPDATE**
I uninstalled the update 6 so I just had 7, and now it wants me to install update 5 - WTF IS GOING ON?

Actually, FTB doesn't support Java 6. Java 8 is what's not being supported, although I think it's being updated to.

*Contains rage at mention of Mac and rubbish* try a reinstall of vanilla and modded with java 7. Also reinstall 7 just in case

I do recall having had some issues with older versions of Java installing updates in a way that eventually broke everything -- I've come to the conclusion that trusting the updater is just asking for trouble.

You want to have Java 7, where update 65 seems to be the latest. First uninstall any other Java showing up in Programs and Features, to try to prevent the old ones from sticking around, then grab the right download from that link I just posted (probably Windows x64, unless you're pretty sure you're on a 32-bit machine).

The other stuff you say you've had happen completely befuddles me, and I have no idea what you did there.

Sorry it took so long, all my security questions had mysteriously changed, and then I watched this really cool YouTube video in which a Russian man boils Coca-Cola... Strikingwolf's thing didn't work, I'm attempting Narc'd thing now.
Actually, I can't be bothered right now - I am dying from exhaustion. Everybody check back tomorrow to see if it worked.

See, I did exactly this, and FTB crashed and would not launch any packs. I re-downloaded 6 and it worked again... (both were x64 as I run Win7 64bit)

Now that I have more time, I just re-ran the java7 installer I downloaded, and now everything works again....

Not sure what the hell happened there tho' /boggle

Yeah, the Oracle JVM is... special. In the "special ed" sense. Still, given enough pushing, it does eventually start working again.
