Easiest would definitely be using filters to pull things out into your tubes and into chests attached to Automatic Crafting Tables from Buildcraft. The ACT will use items from attached inventories. I don't think you can use a filter to pull things out of the ACT, so you'll have to go with a BC pipe + gate/redstone engine pumping to a relay to get the items back into your RP system.

If you want ratios and whatnot, you'll need to look into regulators.

I've used a setup like trunksbomb describes in the past - a sorting machine dispensing items to chests beside an array of autocrafting tables set to make different things. However, I did not pump the output into relays, but rather into other chests, and had a retriever pull them remotely. Considering how lag-prone relays are, that's probably a much higher performance option, and depending on the number of relays you save, much cheaper as well.

I added Immibis mods to the pack which gave me the automatic crafting table mk2. Which filters can pull from the top to craft. Its a nice table and works great with rp2. With filters its a much faster autocrafting method. Specifically you need tubes stuff. Its one of his mods. Here is a spotlight for the mod.

I've used ACT's, I was just wondering if I should learn Craft Packet systems which I've only ever used once to make some Diamond Shards for the Wrath Igniter.

That's about all anyone ever uses those for. You'll have to set up a small cane farm if you want to not have to worry about paper supplies while crafting. Aside from working directly with RP, I haven't found much incentive to use them. Their footprint is simply too large for multiple step, multiple item crafting recipes.

Compare a crafpacket setup for Redpower Managers to an equivalent system using ACTs.

I could imagine setting up a logistic pipe or something sending in stone to turn into stone bricks for building. But thats about it. Dire used it in his lets play series to compress xycorium ore.

You could go for a few more periods there- here, have a few..............

I just watched that episode a few minutes before you posted that, actually! They do look really nice. And of course Direwolf was being stubborn about being wrong in the end.

"No no it shouldn't matter"
*cut*
"No, they were right."

I think Direwolf20 messes things up deliberately on occasion in order to get people posting. Like when he reversed the polarity on his quarry and didn't disconnect the original Biogas Engines, so when the "inventory full" signal turned off the Redstone Energy Cell, the Biogas Engines turned on and kept the Quarry running. And when he had a Creeper on his glass roof, then went round the back to his Peat Farm, and the Creeper blew him up. Saw that one coming as well.

We have a set up where 9uryou incoming quarry mats are sent through rp2 sorting system then into pneumatic tubes to barrels. Thus cobble is usually in excess and many other mats. after a quarry running at full. Once the barrel of material x is set up they follow a different tube into a furnace if need be or a ACT. The cooked goods have their own barrel when that fills up it tried to either cook it again if not sends it down to the ACT and crafts the next step in the series. So cobble, once being filled, is cooked to stone. Stone to stone bricks and so forth. Same for basalt, redrock, sand. . . you get the picture.

I've set up automatic diamond making now. Coal in my Enderchest goes to Macerator, dust goes back into a linked chest. Dust and Gravel go to an ACT and the ball goes to the chest and then on to a compressor. Compressed balls go to another ACT and so on. Pretty basic stuff I'm sure and nothing like as over-engineered as Direwolf20's version but hey it's my first automaton.
