After actually checking how much steam dynamos produce, I ended up making six of them because my previous generators only produced 60 Rf/t, now I have enough power I just need to do something about the excessive amount of sludge I made, and I have to find the balance of a not too big tree farm, but not too small either.

The dynamos are nice in that they can run on solid fuels and create their own steam, or you can pump steam from a more efficient setup into them. Now that you can augment dynamos, you can get up to 320rf/t from one (although they consume fuel to match). I've not tested to see if they consume pumped in steam at an increased rate as well (I assume they do, but sometimes these things get overlooked). Either way, a MFR Steam Boiler will produce a fair amount of steam for small resource investment which can power the dynamos which can power the farm with plenty to spare.

Its also nice that steam is one of the easier ways to generate power for any of the big power systems, which allows your single farm to power anything your base needs.

I've found that for a lot of applications, HP boilers are not as good as larger LP boilers.

My infinite charcoal system was a 9x9 with a planter, harvester and fertilizer. It ran my 2x2x3 steam boiler to the point I was able to hook a minimum size Big Reactor turbine to it and produce more power than I had anything to do with it.

My latest world is using distributed power, with small 1x1x1 boilers, rather than one massive one. So having lots of charcoal to cart around is very, very handy for me.

Have you found any real advantage for distributed power vs. centralized production? I'd always figured that getting that up and running properly was a pain in the neck unless you have AE, LogiPipes, or some other intelligent "item network" system. I guess you could also do it with EnderIO conduits on specific frequencies, but that'd add up quickly with Enderpearls.

If you're using charcoal for everything, ender chests with some basic piping can feed all of your engines from a single input. Nice too that you can carry an associated ender pouch and have access to fuel anywhere in the world, or even just monitor the level of feeding stock at a glance.

Fair enough, although my main question is how much you end up wasting in the way of resources for those enderchests. Though, I guess it really depends on what your main concern is.

I moved a few blaze spawners onto cursed earth pretty early this game and then used blaze rods as my main fuel up until just recently. I still use blaze rods for most of my non-turbine fuel needs, and I have nearly half of a resonant cache full of them. Ender chests for everyone!

Extremely well. I've built a large, spread out base, which makes it prohibitively expensive to run power everywhere. So instead, each building gets it's own power source.

Combined with the fact that I don't like teleporting items, I'm using trains or minecarts for just about all my long distance transport. Moving wood to charcoal smelters, charcoal to trains, boilers, and steam dynamos. And a few furnace generators, if only because I ran out of copper. It's turned out to be more fun than any super huge power system I've used.

I've set up my usual basic AE system too (drive with a couple of drives and a terminal), so I'll be able to make my "I have infinite inventory" machine (ender pouch connected to an ender chest that has its items pulled into the AE system) I just have to find a goddamn nether fortress, the problem is that judging from journeymap there isn't a single one anywhere even remotely accessible. I may just end up adding Logisitcs Pipes to the modpack so I can make my "I have everything always"" machine with a remote order pipe.

You know, I'm actually trying to get away from teleporting items in my Gregtech series. Railcraft is so underused because of item teleportation, but there's something awesome about trains running around doing my bidding. I'm currently trying to get my brain around the signalling system. It's weird, I'm a huge OpenTTD fan, but the signaling in OpenTTD is abstract enough that I'm having trouble implementing the more advanced signals. Unfortunately, it's a little hard to find current tutorials on YouTube. I'm planning on using a similar system for my base once I get a Reactorcraft fission plant up and running, although I more intend to have rotational dynamos for each room and build, with most of the base power supplied by the reactor.

I always liked the "I have everything always" system. I remember in Monster I used both Logipipes and AE. It was before Extra cells, I think, so I was using Logistics pipes for liquids and sending items to my Enderpouch. The only downside I ran into was that I couldn't access my AE crafting through my Logipipes network, so it could be a little bit tricky. Although, that was also when I discovered how wonderful P2P tunnels are. I only wish there was a P2P for Electricraft power, but, can't have everything.

My personal issue with using trains is about reliability. I tried to run a complex train system some time ago, but ran into issues with chunkloading, carts stopping for no apparent reason and Creepers destroying my railway. So I'd rather run a pipeline 256 blocks rather than a cart these days, and teleportation is basically piping without having to load the chunks in-between. Also, my bases are rarely as horizontally expansive.

Having said that, my flights of fancy feature interdimensional railway junctions busy with managing trains arriving and leaving through portals. But then, I'm an SF nerd and that's unlikely to leave anything I do in MC uninfluenced.

Keserian: Railcraft signaling, I've found, is something that tutorials are less than helpful with. It's better to just try it out yourself. That said, it hasn't changed much so all the tutorials are pretty valid. I know JeetTol on Youtube did one, that's very good.

I remember setting up in Unleashed, a Computer and ME bridge, connected to an enderchest. I was attempting to set it up so I could use the computer to request crafts from AE, by having it read the position and type of item in the enderchest. So I could move a piece of cobble into the enderpouch in a specific place, and have it craft a piston for example. Didn't work out so well, though that's my inability to program more than anything.

Ieldra: I've become annoyed by the necessity of using ender pearls and my own inability to farm them. (It's boring.) So I made a 'recipe' for the admin chunkloader, which uses a Nether Star, Four eyes of ender, and four pearls. (toss them out into NEI and cheat myself the loader.) That said, what I do is put two loaders down, one at each end of my train. (Loco plus 11 carts puts the ends out of reach of one on either end.)

I love interdimensional railways, but I find that trains break up going through portals. So I have the train run to an AE bridge. Basically an AE system consisting of a controller, two Quantum Rings and nothing but import and storage buses into the various loaders and unloaders. Completely silly, but much easier than fiddling around with coupler tracks.

Is there actually something in the DW20 pack that could substitute the remote order pipe? There's the wireless access point, sure but it has a range limit and it's not even that big.

Pneaumaticraft has the Aerial interface, that can send/remove items from the player inventory. Combine that with a computer, and either the thing that lets a computer listen for commands from chat, or a pocket computer.

my treefarm setup on the Infinity instance is a MFR planter and harvester with a radius 3 upgrade, so it'll cover a 9x9 area (helpful if you want to change the farm to plants instead of trees)
the saplings, logs and apples get exported into barrels. from there the saplings get send from the barrels into the planter and the logs get send into a single alloy furnace with an octadic capacitor. the alloy furnace exports the smelted charcoal into another barrel and that barrel send charcoal to 2 generators from Ender IO with octadic capacitors aswell.

the sludge produced by the harvester gets send to a sludge boiler 3 blocks under the ground and the resources produced by the sludge boiler gets send into a chest.
below the tree farm I have 1 munchdew from Botania that eats treeleaves and generates mana, which will speed up the harvester as it has less leaves to cut.
the produced mana gets send into a pool which powers 3 agricarnations from Botania that'll speed up the growth of the trees. there's also a hopperhock which will pick up any nearby dropped sapplings and apples and sends them to the barrels.

I also have a small 3x3 essence berry farm connected aswell with a ritual of the green grove to speed up the growth of the essence berries. the berries get harvester by another harvester which sends the berries to a activator above the harvester and the sludge into the sludge boiler. the activator right clickes the berries to generate experience which is picked up by a vacuum hopper which exports the experience into an Ender IO experience obelisk.

all of this is connected with Ender IO conduits for items, liquid and power.
and seeing as a picture is much easier to understand...

I love how I actually disabled both of the mods you mentioned. I never use ComputerCraft, because I don't really want to learn programming again, and I didn't like pneumaticcraft to begin with (except for the helmet thing), especially the plastic seeds that were just everywhere and planting half of them was just a pain in the butt and the other half did annoying things when they grew

I have good news for you, I've just in the last few days fixed a TON of those kinds of bugs. One of my users with a server containing a large scale and complex railway system was helpful and patient enough to get me on the server and start pointing out issues he encountered regularly. So expect much better reliability in the next release!

And interdimensional railways....mmm...could be so much better...did I mention my Patreon MineCon challenge? I didn't? Oh...nevermind then...pretend you didn't hear that.

Don't suppose you can do something about the locomotives turning backwards if part of the train gets stopped on a boarding track and the loco goes around a corner? Unless you fixed it, and I'm not up to date on it.

Unfortunately, that issue has more to do with how Minecraft handles Minecarts than any of my code. Its generally recommended that you don't build your systems with corners near Locking Tracks.
