*pulls out laser pointer*

Ooh! I'mma post that in the mod ideas thread, and probably get a reply that it exists.

Hrmm, on topic though, If I had to remove one of the big three in the FTB pack...eh, I'd probably remove buildcraft. So sue me. I love it, but I don't use much of it's functions, besides pipes. And conveyors are cooler anyway.

So if I had to remove a mod because reasons, I'd go for Gregtech. Oh man so original. I guess the important thing is why I'd do such a thing. Rambling time!

My main 'problem' so to speak with Gregtech is that it tries to make Minecraft 'hard' without understanding why Minecraft is easy. It's goes all in with multistage crafting recipes, fancy new processes what take (in game) ~days~ to finish, and horribly annoying combinations of the previous two things. There's also the whole 'your mod is wrong let me balls it up fix it for you' factor which should be hilarious due to how some modders act, but really just reminds me that Thermal Expansion makes MJ bearable yet other mods are still 'power storage? i don't understand?'. Anyhow, to the untrained eye/person who only plays Minecraft this seems perfectly hardening. Except all these changes 'demand' so to speak, is a greater portion of resources. Resources, which internally*, are effectively** limitless. So you just spend more external resources and suddenly your design is terrible. So yeah.

After that? Uh, that uh, mod that, uh, you know, does that thing that you really like. Yes. That one.

*Barring plugins/mods which limit world size
**You ain't getting to the Farlands. Mainly because they got 'removed', but also in the general 'game logic dies' because that so far away from spawn. Hence the name.

To anyone awnsering like this, you're either comically missing the point or epically missing the point.
Either way, you're missing the point.

So, what is the point? What is the hypothetical situation that makes me want to remove a mod? I can think of at least 3 in which I'd give different answers.
1) I'm being forced to remove a mod against my will: I'd pick something low-impact, that I think nobody would be particularly hurt by missing it, like obsidian plates.
2) I suddenly have a desire to take things that people like away from them: I'd pick something I can live without, that I think others may miss terribly, like Twilight Forest.
3) Servers running anything other than default Ultimate with default configs don't exist: I might remove something I find unbalanced or laggy for server play (not going to bother with an example for this one).

Since you didn't say why I should want to remove a mod, I don't see why not removing anything isn't a valid answer.

I'm pretty sure this thread has absolutely no impact on anything, and is just for some fun discussion more than anything, and also, there is no "against your will" anywhere in here. Just don't post, or something.

And, yes, I would miss the Twilight Forest miserably. I wouldn't mind if mystcraft was gone though.

I personally would choose "I don't wanna remove anything" too, but don't for the sake of conversation. Just sayin'.

...Your avatar makes me thing you're always angry, and makes me want to always tell you to calm down. Welp, /endpost

If he didn't want answers like that he should have made it more clear that removing a mod is not optional. Just sayin'.

He looks angry to you? Looks more shocked or horrified to me.

Heh, to me he looks like he's saying "SIT THE HELL DOWN 'AFORE I WHOOP YA!"

I get your point about mod removal, I do use at least the tiniest bit of every mod that I probably don't even notice.

Wouldn't it be nice if threads had config settings like mods do?

I'm the same way, but for a mod like obsidian plates, well it only really adds one thing, which I don't use because when I use doors, I don't go through them often enough to feel I need a pressure plate on a side that monsters can get to, especially on a server where I can just teleport back into my house.

Petrogen is another little mod I would consider removing, although it is slightly cheaper to make than a Gregtech diesel generator and outputs twice as fast, so it does have its advantages despite being less fuel efficient.

Wouldn't it be nice if threads had config settings like mods do?

I would definitely set ExplicitlyStatePointBeforeSayingSomeoneIsComicallyOrEpicallyMissingIt=true for this one. It just came off as a bit rude.

GregTech. 100%.

That said, my reasoning is personal. I understand what GregTech tried to do. Once upon a time, it seemed like IC2 was the end all and be all of beginning power systems. I'll always be a noob at Tekkit/FTB, but I remember when the first thing you learned to do was build a macerator, furnace, compressor and extractor. After that, you MIGHT think about playing around with BC or RP2.

So, this time when we restarted our server as an FTB server, I decided to try going BC3 instead. And I fell in love with BC and TE. I LOVE IT. I refuse to touch IC2. At first, it was on principle - I wanted to know if I could thrive with no IC2 machines. Then came the day I needed some glowstone for a building project. And come to find out, GregTech has made it so that I can't just turn glowstone dust into glowstone. I have to use a compressor. Which means an IC2 power source. Which means... etc.

It might seem like a petty thing, but it pissed me off. No mod should FORCE you to play a certain way. I should not have had to delve into IC2 just to get glowstone blocks. After that, it became a boycott. I will never use IC2 or GregTech on any server where GregTech is installed.

So much IC2 hate <_<... it works fine and is always updated and it does what it does... i dont think it always needs to be "Fresh and new and get new machines"... Thats what other mods are for... I like my IC2 shit lol

Its hard to think about a mod to take out because there is a lot of factors... In a perfect world? i would never even think about taking RP2 out... but when you have a modder that cant find the time of day to even toss a tweet out while taking a dump on their smartphone... that bothers me... however TBH it bothers me that FTB can say somethings coming out on X day and not post an update at all when its days past the supposed release date as well... Takes 30 seconds to keep tens of thousands of people informed guys? hello?...We're not upset that its not released guys, we're upset that you leave us hangin with no word... Then to be all upset when ppl keep asking when all it takes is a quick post to say "bla bla bla things are delayed taking longer hten usual, it'll come out when its out hopefully in the next 2 weeks"... Then if its not out in 2 weeks post another update... ... .. Kinda keeps everyone thinking, oh yeah, these guys are working hard at it nice! thanks for the info!.... aaanyways kinda derailed there

So if we're taking updates and such into mind... i'd probably remove RP2
If we're just talking about balance and such... Mystcraft, EE3 and Soulshards would all be on my chopping block... ... ... Mystcraft tho, does add some needed functionality at times >_<...

I did make a Mystcraft world with Diamond tendrils and filled a diamond chest full with stacks of diamond... which in itself took me probably well over 30 hours of playtime to find the pages to make that world and to mine the diamond.... now diamond itself isnt that useful... until u take EE3 into the mix... now i have infinate Gold and Iron, which in turn also gives me infinate ender pearls and other things.

Most mods are balanced in and of themselves... but when tossed into hte mix with other mods? then these glaring irregularities form...

Long story short, i'd prolly axe EE3 until it gets a little further into its development.[DOUBLEPOST=1368651589][/DOUBLEPOST]

Silktouch.... u didnt "have" to use IC2 there was a modless vanilla solution to your problem...

This, and FTB not holding up their end of non-interference configs, makes it so I'm completely unable to find and ultimate server to play on. I'll either have to download configs or somesuch just to get in the door.

FTB was supposed to make it easier to play with people, Now i'm usually stuck in a solo world and not caring enough to do anything.

The portal gun mods. No question. You can find them in dungeon chests, and they're cheesy: lets you move any block AND acts like silk touch when you place a block in a door or over a torch. Imagine being able to find a jackhammer in dungeon chests, along with an infinite power source for it! Portal Gun is really just a feature exercise, like any other cute mod that adds a fun thing purely FOR that fun thing, with no consideration for balance. Its main purpose is made redundant with Mystcraft anyway. If you really want it, use the Direwolf pack, I say. It also sort of bothers me that it directly apes Portal with no changes. Mystcraft is inspired by Myst, but doesn't slavishly reproduce it. It's like if FTB were to have a Mario mod. Even if it's cool, it feels...suspect, copyright-wise.

Getting rid of RP is tempting, especially since you know RL work is going to be a permanent problem for Elo. That said, I don't think I could ever give up RP terrain gen. Or the actual logic, since that's sort of the point of RP and it's lovely. In fact, if everything else in her mod - even frames - got replicated by some other mod, it wouldn't bother me. But if someone made a mod to replace RP logic, I would be really sad.

I don't think I'd take out EE3, but I'd nerf the HELL out of the Minium stone. It needs its list of transmutations cut down (leave the smelting shortcut for the philosopher's stone), and should have the durability of gold items.

I want to take out Power Converters or Secret Rooms (and I alredy take them out). Power Converters is killing fun :D I love making interesting things for power. For Secret Rooms, meh, it's not a good mod for a SSP game, also for SMP, you can use your creative brain for hiding (and it's more fun)
