Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but I do have an idea regarding high-tier solars: make them require metamaterials like the ones we've been able to develop in the real world. Could call it something like a "Photon Distortion Plate." The way the experimental ones work is that they create something very similar to a black hole effect, forcing incoming light to bend into an area from which it can't escape, allowing the solar generator to operate much more efficiently and, consequently, producing more power.

As for what they'd require...not exactly sure, on that front. But, perhaps looking over this will give ya some ideas.
Ooooh! That's a great idea! I don't think I have something for high tier Solars... Thanks for the link :D
There's a good chance I will be using that idea :)

I believe we need more original ways of producing energy than MORE SOLARS

That said, you I hope you expand your mod and add more things to it afterwards

Hence why I believe honestly a more over all reaching green tech sort of power system would be more interesting. A modualer green power system would be even more interesting. Think about it the only thing around right now that is basically mulitblock power is Rail Craft steam systems. Everything else is 1 block 1 cable = power. (I would say factorization solar and BT wind to but those are basically closed systems)

I still don't get why people call solars OP if IRL everything is powered by windmills, hydroelectricity and solar power.

It is mostly because the way Solar is done with IC2/GT it is so radically better then even the best solar system out there. Photovoltaic cells have a horrible efficiency issue IRL that is one of the reason you dont see them on everyone's roof. Even the best take years to pay for the costs you put into them and still will not power your home fully only make your power bill lower.

But in MC plot down just one square meter of photovoltaic power and your already running industrial machines. I have no issues with the IDEA of solar power only that they way it is currently done is game is so far out of wack.

The other thing many have is just how free it is. Even the cheapest solar basically never need you to do more then craft it. Compare that the wind system which either ware down or at lest have a chance of breaking or the water system which is so underpowered trying to compare it to solar really is a joke and you get that sort of magic block issue.

So don't get me wrong I like solar I just dislike how it currently is done and balanced within MC. And I'm not telling people not to use it just it would be nice to have other options.

It the end the issue comes down to scale and maintenance. solar right now is to small, to cheap, and has no draw backs at all unless you running the hard mode configs and even then it just cost more. And trying to say the whole sun issue is its draw back is also a poor place to stand. When you can sleep the night away or build an array of cheap batteries that becomes a non-issue.

because it's not? in 2007 86.4% of the worlds energy was gathered from fossil fuels. Unless one lives in a country like Iceland, or that one American town that I forget the name of, then no, everything is not powered from renewable energy sources, not even close.

Probably some liberal tree-hugging town on one of the coasts most likely Cali or oregon

This is a bit off topic, but can you add an ultimate infinite panel (NEI only, mainly for server owners) that produces infinite eu at 2174 (or whatever the interdimensional accepts) eu/p

There is already such an item - quantum generator

And also my country for example ( which has TONS of sunlight ) is not using a single solar farm or array , they use coal and natural gas stations

Where I'm from everything comes from hydroelectric power (thanks Tesla!)

anyway, i think that a solar tower is the same as a solar pannel, just need sun and a crapload of shit to craft it, or build it, in this case.

maybe invent a new way to generate power for mid game? solars are supposed to be early game (vanilla IC2) along with water/wind mills and maybe lava generators, and reactors for end game, maybe a 128 output generator of some sort?

Well then you're lucky to come from where you come from. But you are quite the minority in this.

As light knight said ASP adds this however I expect people to choose between one of these mods and if someone chooses my mod over ASP then there should be a reason.. So I may consider it[DOUBLEPOST=1365623609][/DOUBLEPOST]
is this an April Fools joke thread?
No it is not why?

It would be cool if you added a way to generate power through electromagnet or even add true hydroelectric to MC. I love your idea of a solar tower and having mirrors along the bottom to reflect the heat into the tower. Having a way to generate EU steam power without using a nuke reactor will be awesome. I approve anything that adds more complexity to MC as well as multiblocks. Hell, making nuclear user bigger multiblock structures will. Something that complex should be in a multiblock.

Multiblock Sturctures FTW.

Good luck with the mod and I'm looking forward to the DL link.

1 Eclipse.PNG
It appears as if I have installed the APIs correctly...sort of LOL
Anyways now I have to learn how to recompile without including that code (strict rules against that you know)
And of course learn Java.
After that I will be getting my first part of the mod out to you. It may just be that I add world gen (highly unlikely to add any) and recipes for things, not so much functionality.
The UU Matter armor will be first (Iridium, Emerald, and Obsidian have all been crossed out due to unoriginality)
I hope some of you are excited for the armor/tools part (it's for practice, and I think it's a good idea) and I hope to get out the solar part of the mod soon :p
Thanks for staying with the thread so far and thanks for all your support (I have people come from all across the forums wishing me luck (it just makes me feel so good) (Even my server owner wished me luck :D )
Anyways have a nice day!

I'm coding armor right now (as in like literally at this exact moment), and if you want your UU armor to do anything special, I strongly suggest doing the solar first as I believe it would actually be easier to code, and much much easier to texture (I never realized that armor textures for rendering are actually kind of intricate).

EDIT: Unless, of course, your texture is entirely pink, that would actually not be that hard to texture.

The armor will be indestructible or darn near close...so nothing really indestructible just high damage values
It will be über expensive because after it is a GT adfon...
Textures for armor/tools will consist of the three colors of uu matter
Also can't wait to see your mod ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1365734812][/DOUBLEPOST]
I thought you said it was almost done.
Coding IC2 Addon [Version -1 Almost Done :D]
I'm doing tools to practice and that has nothing to do with Solars hence the -1

Kinda misleading, don't you think?
Sounds like you're almost done with version-1.
