Why that? just to get the word out to more people? I think if it would better until they get the whole thing done first.
right...don't wanna jump the gun. We've already got a LOT of people here wanting to know when this will get done...
BUT it is a great idea (and something I planned on doing) more towards completion...

Well the main differece between our design is not the storage block , it is the glass above the solars ( why glass ?) and the rows

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_power_tower

from reading that I can tell that you should use more mirrors, no solar panels on top, and maybe a railcraft turbine (if railcraft is installed) so it produces energy from the steam it generates.

yes we all agree that we use heliostats from the side that will redirect the sunlight into the blocks that will process the sunlight into EU . but ILGT calls them solar panels for some reason ( which causes misunderstanding )

Such a solar tower has nothing to do with "solar panels". Solar panels generate electricity directly from light, and they're not very cost-effective. Those solar towers capture the heat and use that to drive for example a steam turbine.

So if RC is installed it could function just like a RC boiler. People would then have the option to either connect steam engines or steam turbines.

That's exactly what we plan on doing

There will be an option , either it will produce steam or it will produce EU directly ( in the config )

Hey I've got one question:
Is this for Minecraft 1.5.1 or 1.4.7

I mean chances are you will finish this mod before redpower and other mods update to 1.5.1 so having a 1.4.7 version will let us use it with these packs until the FTB packs are fully updated to 1.5.1

You could make a 1.5.1 and 1.4.7 version its just gonna be hard on the programmers with the new way that textures are handled

On the other hand, i fully back this mod and if its not added officially to the packs i will add it myself. Good luck on getting this completed!

We are going to code it for 1.5.1 , I think it will be finished when the FTB will update to 1.5.1 ( of course if it is not gonna take 2 Months or something )

Also guys could you please chose the design you like more on the 7th page ? we need more votes do decide

I vote for LightKnights Idea but I would wonder if we can replace more than just one block with an MFE, for example being able to have multiple valves on a tank?

The reason for choosing LightKnights Idea is i dont like having the MFE sticking out the side of it and i believe that 2 layers of solars is sufficient.

Also in that picture what are the casings supposed to represent? just the solar tower blocks?

Yes they represent the tower blocks , and you can have multiaple EU storage units , and when there will be steam the storage unit will be replaced with a valve for the steam

The wiki Drav showed wasn't all square and plain.

Also, if people have the option to use these or boilers, this has to be very, VERY competitive. Not much has been able to compete with a few 36 HP boilers, and you can make them early mid game.
And there's gonna be something turning this steam into EU, right? So people are just going to use that block and turn boiler steam into EU without Steam Turbines. It would be very easy to make tons of EU early in the game, therefore nullifying gregtech's difficulty. In addition, you want to use hard advanced solars recipes for easy mode? I can't see myself using this above boilers if they do the same thing, because this takes more materials, needs to be hooked up to the sun, and takes up a lot of space.

You can do the same with Power Converters, just pipe steam into a Steam Consumer and have a EU producer of the voltage you'r producing.

Yeah, but if this is ever added into Mindcrack, people there will have the option of not using the Steam Turbine, and instead just use the new block they're adding. I'd love to see this not so outclassed by boilers, yeah, it generates free energy, but boilers are easy to set up with something that doesn't run off MJ like a SC farm. And if you have a Multifarm or an MFR farm, you'll just need to set up a small amount of energy generation until you can get enough burnables for the boiler to begin producing steam.

Keep in mind they having it configurable and it's only for the tower not for Steam to Eu conversions.

For now we are not planning to add any block that will turn steam into EU . the tower is simply going to output steam and you can do whatever u want with it .

There will not be a config for steam?
There will be a turbine added.. So you can choose between either steam or EU
Also, this will take a while and will be out probably when the other 1.5.1 mods come out.
Hopefully this gets added to FTB :D
