I think I'm going to do something completely crazy...

I think most of us remove a mod here and there, I know I removed several and added a few others. Usually the first thing I do is add Gregtech and computercraft and then bees. as long as i have that I am a happy girl :)

No, the latest version of Mekanism natively runs on RF. Which is why updating to it will corrupt your world. You are talking about v5.7 config option, I'm talking about v6.
Yes the energy type defaults to rf but it is natively done in joules. Updating won't corrupt your world but your pipes will disappear and so will electrolytic seperators

Again, incorrect. As of v6, it runs natively RF, not Joules, although the conduits do support Joules, as well as everything else.

I've got video footage proving that it does, indeed, corrupt your world. It happened to my first season of ShneekeyCraft.

Yea, all of the mekanism generators as well as the electrolytic separator, instead of just going away, turned into invisible blocks that permacrashes you and corrupts your world when you try to break them. It is why SC still runs v5.7
But 6.0 has 5x ore processing and cardboard boxes and balloons...

. I'm looking at atomic science (particle colliders! Antimater!, & MFFS belongs in a pack with Stargates and might require more power if I ever get around to using it).

Atomic Science is actually an extremely awesome mod - the reactors and particle accelerator it adds are some of the coolest things in Minecraft. I really have no idea why it isn't used more widely - It's a damn sight more interesting than IC2.

Welcome to the club.
I stopped using those mods (as well as Railcraft) long ago, when I was trying to make my own pack as slim as possible and realized that I don't care/have better options for most of what they add. It's good to know that the old mods that kind of stopped in time have been losing popularity recently, giving more room for new things to be noticed.

I think you can remove them safely with most block breakers. Or you could remove them before upgrading.

A lot of good points to comment on, I may not be able to remember them all here.

1. I personally don't feel any need or desire to replace IC2, so I am not looking at mods like Mekanism or RotaryCraft.

2. RailCraft is NOT dependent on BuildCraft, you can keep the tanks & steamboilers & coal coke, you just have to find liquid fuel alternatives to the massive amount of oil spawned by BuildCraft. While I have never actually gotten around to it, I still have a vague interest in playing with the track options it adds. I'm also keeping Steve's Carts in the hope that I will get around to it someday.

3. Atomic Science provides 2 files (api & core) on its download site & no real installation instructions. What I tried caused the launcher to just quit. I'm sure I'm the one missing something here, but I want to spend my time playing the game, not trouble shooting it.

4. The current build of LanteaCraft is very broken & can crash the game leaving ticking entities behind. Back to SGCraft for now.

5. ComputerCraft: while I admire the functionality, learning to write & debug code is SO NOT my thing. In this, I am content to remain a lowly button-pusher & bottle-washer.

6. I switch from easy to peaceful any time the constant mob fighting gets in the way of what I'm trying to do. If a mod provides a config to turn off explosions, it gets nerfed. I went ahead & turned off all the instabilities in MystCraft this time, too. And I absolutely hate (real-world) rollercoasters.

#4 I'm using LanteaCraft-0.1.0-forge9.11.1.933-snapshot-82, no problems there.

Although reading this topic has me worried about updating Mekanism, sounds like it's going to be "fun".

Uh...that's not incorrect. The energy system doesn't even default to RF - by default it checks for the Mekanism energy system of joules. All foreign energy systems are simply translated when necessary.

The corruption issue has to do with the massive amount of internal changes v6 brought about. I talk about this on my blog, and include information on everything that changed.

That will keep creepers from blowing things up, but I don't think it will keep machines from exploding, and I'm pretty sure it won't stop anything from attacking & killing me directly.
Ah,I thought you were reffering to creepers.

I was trying LanteaCraft-RC1-7.jar, though I see it is up to RC1-12 today, found here http://lanteacraft.com/jenkins/job/LanteaCraft/lastSuccessfulBuild/

It will be awhile before I get far enough to worry about stargates, we'll see if they get the updates stable then.[DOUBLEPOST=1393097283][/DOUBLEPOST]
Ah,I thought you were reffering to creepers.

Specifically, Stargates and unstable ingots. But also power-plants & other machines that have a chance of going boom.

Haven't tested this, but I don't think unstable ingots explode when in ME storage. How could they, they're pure energy.
